Description of Work

The Museum Educator is responsible for developing and coordinating the Battleship North Carolina Memorial’s education programming. The position develops curriculum-based educational programming and materials, conducts
research and interpretation, recruits and trains volunteers, and builds partnerships with schools and community organizations. The role also serves as a public-facing representative of the museum while managing the program’s administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Develop and deliver curriculum-based educational programs
- Recruit, train, coordinate, and recognize volunteers
- Build community and educational partnerships
- Manage program administration, including budgeting, scheduling, communications, and coordination with other museum departments.

Recruitment Range: $37,777.00 - $63,000.00

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following are preferred:

• Master’s degree in History, Public History, Museum Studies, Education, or American Studies.

• Experience with North Carolina curriculum standards.

• Strong research, writing, public speaking, organizational, and communication skills.

• Experience with collections and archival materials

• Knowledge to conceive, research, create, plan, and direct programs for learners of all ages, including active-duty military, by determining appropriate content and presentation methods; coordinating program logistics, determining staffing needs, and securing and coordinating volunteers.

• Experience with naval and maritime history and the North Carolina coastal environment.

Position/Physical Requirements

• Must be available to work the schedule of Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm with occasional evenings, weekends and holidays required as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Art History, Biology, Botany, Conservation, Education, History or Zoology from an appropriately accredited institution

AND

four years of museum or related work,

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Battleship North Carolina Memorial serves as the State’s memorial to those North Carolinians who served and died in WWII, as well as a tribute to all veterans past and present. Veteran’s and National Guard Preference 

Applicants seeking Veteran’s Preference must attach a DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, along with the state application. 

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS), along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing. 

Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard, with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22, along with the state application.
