About the role
We are hiring an hourly Medical Assistant to monitor patients receiving Spravato (esketamine) treatment across our three New York City clinic locations. You will be the steady, attentive presence in the room during each patient's treatment session, keeping them safe, comfortable, and supported from check-in to discharge.
This role suits someone who is calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and genuinely interested in mental health care. It is an evening and weekend position, and it offers a path to grow within our organization.
Schedule and availability
- Weekdays: availability after 4:00 PM at least 3 days/ week is required.
- Weekends: availability for some Saturday and/or Sunday time slots is required.
- Locations: shifts rotate across our three NYC clinics, so you must be comfortable commuting between sites.
- Hours: part-time, hourly
Key responsibilities
Patient monitoring (per the Spravato REMS program)
- Directly observe patients during self-administration of the nasal spray and for the full required post-dose period (at least 2 hours), until the patient is clinically stable for discharge.
- Take and record blood pressure before dosing, about 40 minutes after dosing, and afterward as clinically warranted.
- Monitor for sedation, dissociation, and respiratory depression, including continuous pulse oximetry.
- Escalate promptly to the supervising provider for elevated blood pressure, low oxygen saturation, or any adverse event.
- Confirm patients have arranged safe transportation home and understand they may not drive or operate machinery until the next day after restful sleep.
Documentation and compliance
- Document vitals, observations, and adverse events in the EMR.
- Follow controlled-substance handling, storage, and accountability procedures as directed by clinical staff.
Patient care and clinic operations
- Room patients, prepare treatment areas, and maintain a calm, comfortable environment.
- Provide reassurance and support to patients experiencing dissociation or anxiety during treatment.
- Assist with check-in, check-out, and scheduling of follow-up sessions.
- Assist with patient care coordination remotely, following up on care plans and monitoring patient progress
- Maintain cleanliness, supplies, and equipment readiness (BP cuffs, pulse oximeters, emergency supplies)
- Uphold HIPAA and patient confidentiality at all times
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Hands-on experience monitoring patients receiving Spravato (esketamine), including REMS documentation.
- Current BLS/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before start).
- Proficiency taking manual and automated blood pressure and using pulse oximetry.
- Availability weekdays after 4:00 PM and on some weekend slots, plus ability to travel between three NYC locations.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate, timely documentation.
- Calm, compassionate, and professional manner with patients in mental health treatment.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and comfortable using new systems and softwares
Preferred
- CMA, RMA, or CCMA certification.
- 1+ year of clinical experience, ideally in psychiatry, behavioral health, or infusion settings
