YOU

You want to be an important member of a strong team of other makers who take pride in their work and support each other. As a Mechanical Engineer (Product Development), you will be responsible for collaborating directly with our global stakeholders (US, EU, Canada, etc.) to research and develop Simpson Strong-Tie products.


WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Support Product Research & Development (R&D) for Various Markets

  • Assist in Product Research & Development (R&D) by creating mechanical product concepts, 3D models, and prototypes for markets including concrete Anchors, Fasteners, and structural Connectors.
  • Support the R&D lifecycle under the guidance of senior engineers through preliminary engineering calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), design iterations, and testing coordination.
  • Gain exposure to international standards (such as European ETA/EAD, Eurocodes, or US ASME, ASTM) and help align designs accordingly while collaborating closely with local and global teams.

Material & Manufacturing 

  • Understand foundational metallurgical concepts, heat-treatment, and surface-treatment processes (e.g., quenching, tempering, coating) to support design implementations.
  • Interpret material test reports and technical data sheets effectively under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Apply basic Design for Manufacturing (DFM) knowledge across conventional processes, such as milling and turning to assist in identifying cost drivers and supporting value-engineering efforts.
  • Gain familiarity with or exposure to thread rolling for fasteners, and progressive-die stamping for sheet-metal components (a strong plus).

Product Calculation

  • Provide core engineering support for new and existing products, including preliminary and advanced product structural calculations, competitor product benchmarking comparisons, and the creation of standardized calculation templates.

Testing & Analysis

  • Coordinate and support rigorous laboratory product testing activities, including test planning, establishing the DoE, experimental test data analysis, and technical test reports for product validation. 
  • Perform engineering analysis to support product mechanical performance, load capacity, durability, and reliability under various real-world failure modes.

Other tasks as assigned by Line Manager.


DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Familiar or coursework in CAD modeling (Inventor, SolidWorks or similar software preferred).
  • Well-organized, diligent, and responsible with an aptitude in problem-solving.
  • Crystal clear language in English-speaking skills. English proficiency equivalent to Level B2 of the CEFR or above (TOEIC 700, or IELTS 6.0). Knowing German or French is a plus.
  • Familiarity with programing (Python, Illogic, VBA, C / C++...) or CAD Automation is a plus
  • Having passion in general engineering, structural designs, or research fields is an advantage.
  • Creative and innovative mindset, with a willingness to explore new ideas to improve products, testing methods, or engineering tools.
