Manufacturing Engineering Manager – Industrialisation, Manufacturing Technology and Cost

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager for Industrialisation, Manufacturing Technology and Cost to join our team in Inchinnan.

In this role, you will lead the Industrialisation and Manufacturing Technology Engineering activity within the plant, facility or, where applicable, supply chain team.

You will act as Technical Authority, assuring the initial and continuing capability of the method of production to produce product conforming to design definition. You will ensure the resolution of technical issues, problems and arisings to meet business and customer requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time (SQCD).

You will also integrate Manufacturing Engineering activities across the product lifecycle and through the supply chain, providing technical leadership and developing the capability required to meet current and future business requirements.

What you will be doing:

• HSE – Ensure all manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture deployed within the area of accountability are in full compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental standards and meet the expectations of the Zero Harm programme.
• Technical Authority – Specify Manufacturing Engineering and process requirements and make technical decisions within the area of accountability. Chair the Control Authority(s) governing change, subject to appropriate delegation.
• Build external relationships – Manage, develop and maintain effective relationships across the internal and external supply chain, ensuring requirements are understood and maximised and providing coaching where required to deliver successful outcomes in line with Rolls-Royce requirements and commitments.
• Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing – Operate as an active member of the global Manufacturing Engineering leadership team, proactively supporting cross-business collaboration, knowledge sharing, skills and process development to best utilise available resources and deliver business needs and priorities.
• Create strategy – Lead the technical input into facility or supply chain strategy, ensuring Commodity and Manufacturing Process strategy implications are included in relevant capital plans. Integrate Manufacturing Technology, Digital Manufacturing and Product Introduction activities within the business using C2 Acquire Technology and APQP / PPAP processes & procedures where applicable.
• Deploy capability – Maintain and/or govern Production Technical Packages, including technical instructions, programmes and tooling, which clearly define the manufacturing process. Ensure manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture within the business and suppliers are capable of meeting and continuing to meet requirements for quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time.
• Coordinate technical support to operations and suppliers to ensure problems and arisings are resolved in a structured and timely manner.
• Develop capability – Buy off the production readiness of new manufacturing capabilities or methods of manufacture. Develop numerate, real-time methods for capturing process capability and ensure this information is available and acted upon within the facility/supply chain and in new product design.
• Develop talent – Act as professional leader of the Manufacturing Engineering community within the area of accountability, ensuring the required skills and behaviours are in place and promoting the development and growth of the community. Drive accountability and enablement through engagement and coaching so that everyone can be at their best.
• Minimum standards – Work with Manufacturing Engineering Commodity Leaders, Manufacturing Process Owners and, where applicable, suppliers to drive manufacturing processes towards identified consistent best practice.
• Planning – Deploy mechanisms to govern the achievement of Manufacturing Engineering deliverables, report status and ensure issues and risks are resolved to meet project timescales. Manage Manufacturing Engineering load/capacity plans and budgets.
• Product Safety – Ensure product safety risks are understood and mitigated to meet required safety levels and reduce safety risks so far as is reasonably practicable. Champion product safety and promote a product safety culture throughout the supply chain, ensuring learning related to product safety is embedded.
• Quality – Promote a culture of zero defects within the area of accountability. Ensure manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture within the business and suppliers are developed and deployed to support Right First Time manufacture.
• Coach the Manufacturing Engineering community in the use of RRPS, DMAIC and Systems Engineering tools, ensuring compliance with all relevant company, legislative and technical policies and standards.
• Requirements – Identify, synthesise and locally govern requirements for improvements and innovations in manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture within the area of accountability. Prioritise and promote the launch of new projects based on business case.

Position Qualifications:

• Degree level qualification or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline. 

• Demonstrable Manufacturing Engineering experience, with the technical knowledge and capability to provide leadership across manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture.
• Experience of assuring manufacturing capability against safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and lead-time requirements.
• Experience of providing technical leadership and resolving complex manufacturing issues in a structured and timely manner.
• Experience of working collaboratively across Manufacturing Engineering, operations and supply chain environments.
• Strong leadership capability, with experience of developing, coaching and enabling individuals and teams.
• Experience of managing Manufacturing Engineering deliverables, risks, resources, load/capacity plans and budgets.
• Strong understanding of product safety, quality and HSE requirements within a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Requirements:

• Experience acting as a Technical Authority or providing equivalent technical governance within Manufacturing Engineering.
• Experience of Production Technical Packages and production readiness of new manufacturing capabilities or methods of manufacture.
• Knowledge and experience of RRPS, DMAIC, APQP, PPAP, C2 and other Systems Engineering tools.
• Experience of Manufacturing Technology, Digital Manufacturing and Product Introduction activities.
• Experience of developing manufacturing strategy and supporting capital planning.
• Experience of working across internal and external supply chains and with suppliers.
• Experience of process capability improvement and Right First Time manufacturing.
