About Lumafield:
Lumafield was founded in 2019 to upgrade manufacturing.
We are engineers with deep experience across the product development cycle, from initial ideas to shipping hardware, across industries and specializations, who became frustrated by the cost and complexity of modern manufacturing. So we decided to upgrade it.
Engineers make million-dollar decisions every day, and they need tools that give them the greatest possible insight into their products. By offering unprecedented visibility into products, as well as AI-driven tools that highlight problems and generate quantitative data, Lumafield promises to revolutionize the way complex products are created, manufactured, and used across industries. We started with industrial CT scanning, which for us was the most valuable but underutilized tool in the manufacturing toolbox, enabling us to rapidly inspect essential components non-destructively.
We rebuilt the whole system, from X-ray capture, to computer vision analysis, to web-based collaboration, to the entire business model, making the most advanced manufacturing tech more accessible to every industry. Our company, like our platform, is designed for upgrades. We’re building for greater intelligence, autonomy, and speed. For deeper vision, operational excellence, and powerful insights. And then we'll upgrade it all again.
Lumafield is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. and has an office in Cambridge, MA.
About the role:
Lumafield is looking for a Manufacturing Electrical Engineer to strengthen the electrical systems and production processes behind our industrial CT scanners. As part of the Manufacturing Team, you will work closely with Hardware Engineering, firmware engineers, and the Build Team to resolve production issues, develop factory test tools, and carry electrical improvements into production.
This is a hands-on role spanning circuit boards, wiring, embedded interfaces, and complete electromechanical systems. You will spend time at the bench and on the production floor, turning recurring problems into reliable designs, repeatable tests, and clear assembly instructions.
This role is based at our Everett, MA facility, with occasional travel to other Lumafield offices or customer sites.
What you'll do:
Troubleshoot electrical and electromechanical failures during assembly and test. Identify root causes, contain immediate production issues, and implement corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
Design and improve factory test fixtures, electrical interfaces, and test scripts. Use Python, C, and MCU firmware as appropriate to make testing repeatable and results easy to interpret.
Update circuits, schematics, PCB layouts, and wiring designs to improve reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability. Bring up revised hardware and verify it within the complete system.
Create clear assembly, inspection, and test instructions, including incoming quality checks and troubleshooting procedures for electrical assemblies.
Release design and documentation changes through engineering change orders and product lifecycle management systems, keeping bills of materials and revisions aligned with production.
Improve assembly and test processes to reduce rework, shorten build time, and make work safer and easier for technicians.
Partner with Hardware Engineering on new product introduction, ensuring electrical designs, fixtures, and test methods are ready for manufacturing.
Train assembly technicians on new processes and tools, and use feedback from the factory and field to guide ongoing improvements.
About you:
3+ years of relevant electrical, manufacturing, or sustaining engineering experience with complex electromechanical products.
A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Practical experience reading electrical schematics, debugging circuits, and working with ECAD tools such as Altium.
Comfortable using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other bench tools to isolate hardware problems, including board-level interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and USB.
Experience with hardware testing and validation, controlled documentation, and engineering change processes.
Clear written and visual communication, a collaborative approach with technicians and engineers, and the judgment to prioritize urgent production needs alongside lasting improvements.
Bonus:
Experience taking hardware from prototypes through production, including automated test development and analysis of manufacturing test data.
Experience with X-ray equipment, high-power electronics, thermal management, or product safety standards such as UL and IEC.
Experience working within ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485, or a comparable quality system.
