The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School’s primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.

The Office of Patient Engagement (OPEN) at LKCMedicine is a dedicated Centre in Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine that integrates patient and public voices into health research and medical education, ensuring research is shaped with those who have lived experience. OPEN supports researchers and educators to embed meaningful patient and public involvement (PPI) across the research lifecycle and engages with a diverse patient partner network that collaborates on research, education, and engagement activities. Through training programmes for patient partners, researchers, clinicians, and educators, and a dedicated research programme, OPEN builds capability and fosters partnerships that strengthen the quality, relevance, and impact of health research and education, contributing to broader efforts to improve healthcare through evidence generation.

As the Manager/Senior Assistant Manager, Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Advocacy, you will be part of the OPEN team to grow and advocate for patient and public involvement (PPI) for health research, shaping how PPI is communicated and understood by patient partners, researchers, clinicians and healthcare professionals. You will be working with patient partners and multi-stakeholders in Singapore’s research and healthcare eco-system on developing PPI in research through a national guidance document on patient and public involvement (PPI) in health research in Singapore. You will play a key role to develop the communications and outreach strategy for the national guidance document and PPI in research, strengthening its narrative and leading the development of a website. This also includes activating the national guidance document through producing the guidance document with the Research team for the diverse target audience (researchers, clinicians and patient partners) and managing the outreach strategy and plan.

We are looking for a dynamic individual, with strong communication expertise who has a strong interest in patient and community involvement in research and healthcare.

Responsibilities:

• Advocate for PPI in research through the development of an effective communication and branding strategy for PPI in research and the Guidance Document. 

• Manage and develop the outreach strategy plan for the dissemination of the PPI Guidance Document and to advance PPI in the health research eco-system

• Drive the production of the PPI Guidance Document for the different target audience

• Lead the creation and management of the website for PPI in research and the PPI Guidance Document. 

• Manage the development of quality communication materials (eg. EDMs, web and social media content) on the PPI Guidance Document project and assigned projects for outreach to researchers, clinicians, healthcare professionals and patient partners.

• Build strong relationships with stakeholders (including patient partners) involved in developing PPI

• Organise meetings, workshops, seminars and events to advocate for PPI in research and the Guidance Document.

• Contribute to the administration of the PPI Guidance Document Project

Requirements:

• Degree from an accredited university

• Possess at least 6 years of relevant working experience

• Proven experience in developing communication and branding strategy and managing communications and outreach project with multi-stakeholders

• Excellent editorial and written communication skills and experience in health communications, including websites and online content

• Experience in Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) and working in healthcare is an added advantage.

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and versatility in working with people from diverse backgrounds : from researchers and clinicians to patients advocates

• Strategic thinking, strong organizational and administrative skills

• Resourceful and possess strong initiative to drive change

• Team-player with pleasant disposition and outgoing personality
