Leader in sports/athletic performance dedicated to maximizing performance and educational training for both athletic competition, recreational athletes, and individuals whose goals are to be fit and healthy.

Job Description

Responsible for carrying out athletic development for populations of any age and assuring that these services are provided effectively and efficiently according to the goals and objectives of the health system, as well as in accordance to the professional practice standards of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and USA Weightlifting (USAW). Emphasis placed upon quality health care and a safe environment.

Additionally, responsible for the coaches and coaching conducted under their purview. Plays a role in providing education to area coaches and athletes. Requires both physical and mental competency skills. Demonstrating skills for observing, testing and managing athletes. Direct athletes to perform movements involving strength, power, and agility that may include plyometric and strength lifting techniques utilizing free weights and machines. Public speaking abilities that include the media, local school systems, the public, etc. Provides daily and ongoing leadership for Sports Performance, including planning, budgeting, marketing, integration and development of programming. Integration with leaders of the entire Sports Medicine continuum of care, including physicians, sports therapists, athletic trainers, and the Sanford Sports Performance Lab. Works closely with the Sports Performance staff on the Sanford SCORE and other research. Understands all policies and procedures as well as testing protocols for the Sports Performance Program.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field of exercise science, kinesiology, health, physical education, recreation or other closely related discipline is required. Master's degree in one of the identified bachelor's degree areas is strongly preferred.

Five years experience required, seven years preferred. Possesses a thorough understanding of the physiological basis of exercise and the ability to program/instruct according to the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and USA Weightlifting (USAW) guidelines. Possesses an understanding of management, marketing principles, and leadership techniques. It is strongly preferred to possess management or supervisory experience. Competency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills is required.

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification is required at date of hire. Additional certification in at least one of the following areas is preferred: Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA), USA Weightlifting, and/or American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). CPR/AED certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within six weeks of employment.
