SUMMARY: The Hatchery Manager is primarily responsible for planning, developing, and implementing policies and practices for operation of hatchery as well as attaining goals and profitable operation. This position will direct strategic operational plans in hatching eggs and chick production. Responsible for compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Guidelines, and local, state and federal policies, laws, and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manage and coordinate hatchery activities that include: egg pick-up and deliveries, care, incubation and hatching, grading, vaccination, preparation and shipping of chicks.
- Manage and coordinate maintenance of facility and equipment.
- Manage chick care, maintenance, and packing and transfer activities.
- Oversee quality assurance/quality control program.
- Communicate with breeder manager to project egg needs.
- Communicate and coordinate with contract service providers where applicable.
- Manage and maintain weekly hatch schedules providing proper number of birds to processing plant.
- Monitor and manage facility equipment and repairs, addressing maintenance issues.
- Maintain hatchery sanitation.
- Establish and manage safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and information regarding hatchery equipment and operations.
- Responsible for hatchery budget.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will have supervisory responsibility.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Poultry Science, Agricultural Science, Management or related field AND 4+ years of hatchery experience or combination of hatchery and relative poultry industry experience
- 3 years of supervisor experience within similar environment
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
