Job Title: Locum Biomedical Scientist – Blood Transfusion
Banding: Band 6 or 7 equivalent

Location: Edinburgh
Rate: £33 - £39 per hour DOE

Working hours: All shift patterns available

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Biomedical Scientist specialising in Blood Transfusion to join a modern and well-equipped private laboratory in Edinburgh. This role is suited to a Band 6 or Band 7 professional with strong transfusion experience and hands-on expertise using Grifols analysers, looking to work within a high-performing laboratory team on a flexible shift basis.

 

• Perform routine and specialist Blood Transfusion testing in accordance with laboratory procedures and quality standards
• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot Grifols analysers to ensure accurate and timely test results
• Undertake blood grouping, antibody screening, compatibility testing and blood issue activities
• Participate in all shift patterns, including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays where required
• Ensure compliance with UKAS, ISO 15189 and laboratory quality requirements
• Accurately record and authorise results using laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
• Investigate and resolve transfusion-related queries and non-conformances where appropriate
• Contribute to quality assurance, audit activities and service improvement initiatives
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support the delivery of high-quality patient care

 

• HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
• Previous NHS or private sector Blood Transfusion laboratory experience
• Extensive experience using Grifols analysers is essential
• Experience working at Band 6 or Band 7 level within a Blood Transfusion laboratory
• Strong understanding of Blood Transfusion policies, procedures and best practice
• Familiarity with UKAS accreditation and ISO 15189 standards
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and effectively across all shift patterns
