What you’ll do

• Commercial Contract Management: Act as the primary legal contact for commercial contracts in India, providing practical, robust, and timely contract advice to support Weir’s Minerals operations. Daily activities include reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts to manage commercial risks effectively. Success means delivering high-quality contracts that enable business growth and legal compliance.
• Legal Operations & Strategy: Assist in developing and managing legal operations in India by identifying business needs, implementing process improvements, and rolling out legal training. This includes supporting strategic planning and change management to enhance legal maturity within the business.
• Employment Law & Compliance: Provide strategic legal advice on Indian employment law to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and support sound business decisions. This includes handling investigations and advising on company secretary matters.
  Stakeholder Engagement & External Counsel Management: Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external Indian law firms, managing their engagement to support business needs efficiently.
• Regional Support: Primarily focus on India (90–95% of time) with occasional support for other APAC countries as required.
• Travel Requirements: International and domestic travel may be required occasionally to support business and legal operations.

What you’ll bring

Must-haves:

• Admission to practice law in India.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in commercial contracts and legal advisory, gained in a reputable law firm or in-house legal team within a multinational or international organization.
• Strong commercial contract drafting, negotiation, and risk management skills with the ability to provide clear, commercially oriented legal advice.
• Excellent communication skills in English, capable of explaining complex legal issues in lay terms to diverse audiences.

Nice-to-haves:

• Experience in the mining industry or related B2B industrial sectors such as manufacturing.
• Master’s degree in Law (LLM) or overseas legal education.
  Experience advising on complex international corporate and commercial transactions.
• Exposure to multinational or cross-border legal matters within the APAC region.
• Experience working with or managing external law firms and legal service providers.
• Experience in company secretarial matters.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
