Position Summary

The Learning Systems Coordinator reports directly to the Director of the Center for Online Learning (COL). The Coordinator helps students, faculty, and staff resolve distance learning issues and concerns. In addition, the Coordinator will help collect and analyze data with the assistance of NNMC’s Eagle Help Center. The Coordinator assists with the learning management system (LMS) and other educational technology applications as well as monitor and report on student, faculty, and staff usage of the College’s video conferencing platform

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Communicate to students, faculty, and staff on availability of, or changes to, distance learning courses or materials, programs, services, or applications.

  • Assess distance learning technological or educational needs and goals in collaboration with COL.

  • Train instructors and distance learning staff in the use or support of distance learning applications, such as the LMS and video conferencing tools.

  • Provide assistance with the LMS orientation process for NNMC students.

  • Purchase materials, equipment, or other resources.

  • Maintain knowledge of current developments in area of expertise.

  • Review documents or materials for compliance with policies or regulations.

  • Present information to the college community via presentations and faculty training.

  • Manage inventories of products or organizational resources.

  • Manage, maintain, and optimize learning platforms used to deliver online training and education.

  • Maintain the integrity and efficiency of the learning environment including performing routine system updates and checks to keep the LMS running smoothly. (This includes testing new system features.)

  • Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions in learning platforms.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues for learners and instructors in learning platforms.

  • Work with software vendors and internal teams to fix bugs.

  • Generate analytics reports (around usage, performance, and learner or course specific data) and compliance dashboards.

  • Stay abreast of new features and updates to current technologies, and assist in the evaluation of potential upgrades and additions to NNMC’s slate of learning platforms.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders such as course reviewers, instructional designers, and IT staff to ensure the effective use of learning platforms.

  • Complete necessary LMS tasks (e.g, perform course copies as needed, complete course member enrollments, such as adding chairs and TAs to courses, verify course enrollments with the Registrar’s Office, set up integrations, assist with New Student Orientation, or NSO, course enrollments as well as Summer Bridge course enrollments, create developmental and sandbox shells, etc.).

  • Create video conferencing accounts (e.g., Zoom) for users as needed.

  • Solve general video conferencing issues (e.g., missing Zoom recordings).

  • Assist IT with hosting virtual events using video conferencing software.

  • Meet with educational technology vendors for regular check-ins/updates/collaborations with other institutions.

  • Maintain the video platform (e.g., Canvas Studio)  and monitor usage.

  • Oversee the College’s Eagle Tech Support Staff (e.g., lead the hiring process, train the Eagle Techs and define their roles, verify their working hours, etc.).

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technological or education-related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 24 credit hours in IT-related courses.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 year of professional experience in a college/university environment supporting faculty and students with applicable educational technologies.

  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems.

  • Experience working with educational technologies such as Zoom and Google Apps.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community both orally and in writing.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions based on general guidelines.

  • Familiarity with general office-related software (Excel, PPT, Word, etc.).

  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-term goals.

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills.

  • Ability to effectively train or guide students, faculty, and staff.

  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures and ability to deliver excellent customer service.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer;

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds;

  • Sitting for extended periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical office environment.

  • This position has the option to follow a hybrid work structure where the Coordinator can work both remotely and from the office based on task requirements. (Working from the office is encouraged for tasks requiring a high degree of collaboration/support.)

  • If required, must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
