About the Department 

Infrastructure Services provides the secure, resilient and scalable technology foundations that support Aberdeen’s business and client services. Working closely with Architecture, Security, Cloud and Operations teams, the department drives modernisation, operational resilience and service excellence. The team fosters collaboration, continuous improvement and technical leadership, enabling our clients to be better investors through dependable infrastructure services. 

About the Role 

We are seeking a Lead Storage & Backup Engineer to provide technical leadership across enterprise storage, backup, recovery and cyber resilience services. Reporting to the Head of Infrastructure Services, you will own the engineering direction for Cohesity DataProtect, Azure backup and storage platforms, recovery assurance and infrastructure resilience capabilities. This is an opportunity to influence strategy, modernise critical services and lead high-impact initiatives across regulated technology environments. The role offers significant exposure across architecture, security, operations and supplier management, helping you invest in your tomorrow through meaningful technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities 

• Act as the technical authority for storage, backup, recovery and cyber resilience technologies, defining standards and engineering best practice. 

• Lead the design, implementation and continual improvement of Cohesity DataProtect, Azure backup and enterprise storage platforms. 

• Drive recovery assurance, cyber recovery and ransomware recovery testing to improve resilience and recoverability outcomes. 

• Partner with Architecture, Security, Cloud and Operations teams to deliver strategic roadmaps, automation and platform modernisation initiatives. 

• Provide governance, supplier oversight and technical leadership for complex incidents, major changes and regulatory requirements. 

• Reduce operational complexity, technical debt and cost through optimisation, simplification and Infrastructure as Code approaches. 

About the Candidate 

• Strong hands-on experience with Cohesity DataProtect administration, engineering and troubleshooting across enterprise workloads. 

• Proven expertise in enterprise backup, recovery, replication, immutability and cyber resilience solutions. 

• Strong experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure, Azure Backup, Recovery Services Vaults and storage services. 

• Knowledge of enterprise storage platforms, SAN, NAS, replication, performance optimisation and capacity planning. 

• Experience developing technical standards, solution designs, automation and Infrastructure as Code practices. 

Desirable criteria: Cohesity certifications; Microsoft Azure certifications such as AZ-104 or AZ-305; experience with Veritas NetBackup, Rubrik or similar platforms; Financial Services experience; and integration with monitoring, ITSM, CMDB and reporting tooling.
