Sobre este puesto de Laboratory Operations Lead en Epicrispr Biotechnologies

Epicrispr Biotechnologies · Presencial · South San Francisco, California, United States

Who Are We?

Our company is based on the science of our founder, Stanley Qi, one of the original CRISPR co-inventors who then furthered the technology so that DNA does not need to be cut to accomplish gene regulation. Instead, we regulate the epigenome to suppress and activate multiple genes simultaneously. We are further evolving the platform and leveraging its strengths to address unmet medical needs.

We are looking for exceptional team members who want an active role in building a rapidly growing biotech.

Title: Laboratory Operations Lead
Location: South San Francisco, CA
Reports To: Lab Manager

Position Summary

This role will coordinate laboratory operations, procurement, vendor relationships, equipment, and environmental health and safety activities to ensure our laboratories operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable requirements. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with R&D and other internal teams, evaluate operational needs, develop and improve processes, and independently identify solutions to support the Company's evolving research programs.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic biotech environment, managing multiple priorities, building efficient processes, and finding practical and cost-effective solutions to operational challenges.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day operations across BSL-1, BSL-2, CMC, cell biology, virus, and other research laboratories.
  • Evaluate laboratory operational needs and make recommendations regarding equipment, supplies, services, and other resources.
  • Lead laboratory procurement activities, including sourcing, evaluating vendors, obtaining quotes, negotiating where appropriate, managing purchase orders, and reconciling orders.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with laboratory suppliers, equipment vendors, service providers, and other external partners.
  • Coordinate laboratory equipment installation, maintenance, calibration, repairs, and service activities.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory SOPs, processes, and documentation to support safe, compliant, and efficient operations.
  • Support laboratory EH&S, biosafety, and risk-management activities, including risk assessments, SDS/MSDS documentation, waste management, and related compliance requirements.
  • Monitor laboratory practices and identify opportunities to improve safety, compliance, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Partner with R&D, Finance, Facilities, IT, Legal/Compliance, and other teams to resolve operational issues and support business needs.
  • Provide guidance and training to employees regarding laboratory equipment, processes, and operational procedures.
  • Research and recommend new suppliers, equipment, products, and services based on scientific and operational needs.
  • Support laboratory expansion, implementation of new capabilities, and other operational projects.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment when evaluating operational alternatives, resolving issues, and making recommendations to management.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific, technical, laboratory operations, or related field.
  • 2–4+ years of relevant experience, preferably in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or a related research environment.
  • Experience with laboratory operations, procurement, purchasing, vendor management, or laboratory infrastructure.
  • Experience or familiarity with laboratory biosafety, EH&S, compliance, or risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment maintenance and technical service providers.
  • Experience developing or implementing laboratory processes, SOPs, or operational procedures.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology, biochemistry, synthetic biology, cell culture, or another biological discipline.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and work independently under general direction.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with scientists, vendors, contractors, and cross-functional partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, and identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including, without limitation, individual education, experience, tenure, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data, including potential adjustments for geographic location.

Sobre Epicrispr Biotechnologies

Founded in 2018, Epicrispr Biotechnologies is building the world’s leading platform for precision genetic regulation to address serious diseases with little to no available treatments. Our GEMS (Gene Expression Modulation System) platform enables the design of medicines that flexibly, precisely and reversibly modify gene expression, a potential that drug developers have long sought to achieve but which today’s approaches fall short of accomplishing.

We are based on the science of our founder, Stanley Qi, one of the co-inventors of the original Nobel Prize-winning CRISPR patents and is a recognized global leader in the field of genetic regulation using the CRISPR-Cas architecture. Dr. Qi furthered the technology so that DNA does not need to be cut to accomplish precise gene regulation.

So, if joining a high-performing, incredibly fun, and creative team sounds like something you'd love, take a look through our current openings. We're always looking for amazing talent and we'd love to chat.
