Job Description Summary

Installs, maintains, repairs, troubleshoots, commissions, and tests electrical equipment used for the generation, distribution, and utilization of electrical energy throughout our clients’ facilities. This position supports mission-critical laboratories, data centers, and commercial facilities where system reliability, safety, and uptime are essential. The successful candidate will have experience with critical power infrastructure, electrical load calculations, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting complex electrical distribution systems while maintaining zero unplanned outages whenever possible.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

· Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and equipment.

· Plan and lay out work projects from wiring diagrams, schematics, sketches, blueprints, one-line diagrams, and verbal instructions.

· Ability to select the correct materials to complete work assignments.

· Perform electrical load calculations for branch circuits, feeders, panels, transformers, and new equipment installations.

· Troubleshoot electrical distribution systems, power quality issues, nuisance breaker trips, and equipment failures.

· Support planned electrical shutdowns by writing, developing, and executing Method of Procedure (MOP) documents.

· Perform commissioning and functional testing of newly installed electrical equipment.

· Identify electrical deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to improve system reliability and eliminate single points of failure.

· Proficient in establishing testing procedures related to wiring and electrical equipment.

· Maintain electrician tools and test equipment in good working order.

· Must be willing to be cross-trained in all trades.

· Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and respond to emergency electrical events.

Technical Requirements

· Possess a valid California Journeyman Electrician License (required)

· Experience working in mission-critical environments such as data centers, laboratories, hospitals, semiconductor manufacturing, or similar facilities is preferred.

· Coordinate and execute repairs on all indoor and outdoor electrical systems.

· Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of electrical systems and apparatus.

· Coordinate and execute preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on all electrical distribution equipment.

· Perform preventive maintenance on circuit breakers, including inspection, cleaning, torque verification, insulation resistance testing, and functional testing.

· Respond to emergency power failures and restore critical systems safely and efficiently.

· Monitor and test electrical systems using power quality analyzers, multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers (Megger), infrared cameras, and other diagnostic equipment.

· Coordinate and execute repairs on electrical systems serving chillers, HVAC equipment, pumps, cooling systems, generators, and other mechanical equipment.

· Coordinate and execute repairs on line-voltage equipment including freezers, refrigerators, laboratory equipment, computer stations, cubicles, booster heaters, disposals, heat pumps, and similar equipment.

· Coordinate and execute repairs to electrical systems serving HVAC equipment.

· Read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, panel schedules, coordination studies, arc-flash studies, and construction drawings.

· Understand electrical load balancing, selective coordination, available fault current, and electrical system capacity planning.

· Understand state and local building codes, NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, EPA, and all applicable electrical safety regulations.

· Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

· Monitor and record electrical demand and loading at each facility’s main switchgear.

· Monitor transformer and panel loading and identify capacity concerns.

· Troubleshoot blown circuit breakers, fuses, overload conditions, and electrical faults.

· Maintain accurate electrical documentation, panel schedules, one-line diagrams, and maintenance records.

· Adhere to preventive maintenance schedules and document completed work.

· Replace lamps, ballasts, LED drivers, and lighting controls as required.

· Perform infrared inspections and identify overheating electrical components.

· Coordinate work with engineering, facilities, contractors, vendors, and other trades.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on electrical reliability, safety, and preventive maintenance.

· Perform other facility-related duties as assigned.

Key Competencies

· Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).

· Knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements and energized electrical work practices.

· Strong understanding of electrical load calculations and power distribution systems.

· Knowledge of mission-critical electrical infrastructure, including switchgear, ATS, UPS, generators, transformers, and panelboards.

· Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems and controls.

· Strong communication and documentation skills.

· Ability to analyze problems, determine root cause, and implement effective corrective actions.

· Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.

· Commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Work Environment

This position operates in office buildings, laboratories, data centers, and other mission-critical environments. The role routinely uses computers, mobile devices, electrical testing instruments, and specialized maintenance equipment. Regular travel between facilities may be required, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions and work within occupied critical environments where minimizing operational impact is essential.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

· Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment, tools, ladders, motors, pumps, and electrical components.

· Safely install rigging and lifting devices as needed.

· Regularly bend, crouch, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.

· Work above ceilings, under raised floors, and in electrical rooms.

· Move between multiple buildings, departments, mechanical rooms, laboratories, rooftops, and outdoor equipment areas.

· Ability to wear required PPE, including arc-flash clothing, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and respiratory protection when required.

The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on factors such as whether the position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the geographic area in which the work will be performed, market pay rates in that area, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications.


The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.


The compensation for the position is: $55.25 - $65.00
