Job Summary:

The Compounding Inventory Specialist plays a critical role on the Inventory Control team, working within the lab compounding suites to ensure the accuracy and integrity of inventory used in compounded medications. This role is responsible for verifying product weights, IC SOPs are being followed, ensuring waste is decremented properly, managing inventory movement from reserves into the lab, and maintaining FEFO (First-Expired, First-Out) practices. The ideal candidate combines hands-on pharmacy/compounding inventory experience with a sharp eye for detail to support compliant & accurate inventory.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inventory Control

  • Maintain day-to-day inventory within the lab compounding suites, ensuring accuracy across all compounding-related SKUs and ingredients.

  • Verify product weights during compounding and receiving processes to confirm accuracy against expected quantities.

  • Ensure waste is decremented properly and in accordance with SOPs and compliance standards.

  • Manage the movement of inventory from reserve/bulk storage into the lab, maintaining accurate transaction records.

  • Apply and monitor FEFO (First-Expired, First-Out) principles to minimize expired or wasted product.

• Inventory Compliance

• Identify and escalate discrepancies between system quantities and physical counts.

• Support cycle count programs and participate in root cause investigations for inventory variances.

• Maintain compliance with GMP, SOX, and other applicable pharmacy inventory control standards.

• Follow and help refine SOPs related to compounding inventory movement, waste tracking, and reserve replenishment.
  
  

• Returns & Disposals

  • Process and document returned product accurately, ensuring proper disposition in accordance with SOPs.

  • Execute disposal transactions in the WMS, verifying quantities and reason codes align with physical waste generated.

  • Maintain audit-ready disposal records, including drop bin logs and disposal slips, to support SOX and regulatory reviews.

  • Reconcile disposal reporting against expected waste volumes to identify and flag discrepancies.

  • Support periodic audits (internal or KPMG) by providing documentation and explanations for returns and disposal activity.

  • Escalate patterns of unusual returns or disposal volume to IC leadership for root cause investigation.

• Collaboration

• Work closely with pharmacists, compounding technicians, and the broader Inventory Control team to ensure smooth lab operations.

• Partner with site IC leadership and analysts to support reporting and data needs related to compounding inventory.
  

• Data & Research Support

• Support data research efforts related to inventory trends, discrepancies, and waste patterns within the compounding suites.

• Assist with ad hoc reporting and analysis to support inventory accuracy initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

• Experience in pharmacy or compounding inventory environments.

• Active, licensed Pharmacy Technician certification.

• Strong attention to detail, particularly with product weights and quantities.

• Knowledge of FEFO, lot segregation, and compounding compliance practices.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on lab environment.

• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Data research or analytical experience.

• Familiarity with WMS systems and inventory management tools.

• Familiarity with SOX Compliance and SOX Controls
