The Position
Prescient Design is part of Genentech’s Research and Early Development organization (gRED), where we develop and apply cutting-edge machine learning methods to challenges across drug discovery.
Our Frontier Research team focuses on advancing fundamental machine learning and translating new methodological ideas into problems where they can have meaningful scientific impact. We work at the intersection of machine learning, biology, and experimental science, developing methods that can enable new ways of understanding and designing biological systems.
A major area of interest for the team is the development of foundation models for biological systems and understanding how learned representations can be optimized for scientific discovery and downstream prediction tasks.
This internship provides an opportunity to contribute to this work while gaining hands-on research experience at the interface of machine learning and biology.
This internship position is located in Basel.
The Opportunity
- You will contribute to the development and training of foundation models for cell receptors and related biological systems.
- You will investigate how learned representations can be adapted and optimized for scientific discovery and downstream prediction tasks.
- You will work with biological datasets and support data processing, model training, evaluation, and analysis.
- You will implement and compare machine learning approaches and explore strategies for improving model performance and generalization.
- You will contribute to research code, experimental pipelines, and visualization of results.
- You will collaborate with machine learning researchers and scientists across Frontier Research and the broader AI for Drug Discovery organization.
Who You Are
- You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Biology, or a related technical field.
