About Evidence Action

Evidence Action is a global nonprofit organization with an approach distinctive in international development—we exclusively scale interventions that are backed by strong evidence and can be delivered with exceptional cost-effectiveness. Since our founding in 2013, we have reached over 515 million people globally with our interventions. We deliver high impact for every dollar spent, as recognized by GiveWell, The Life You Can Save, and Charity Navigator.

We do development differently. We take a data-driven approach to identifying, scaling, and continuously improving programs that deliver immense impact, ensuring these solutions measurably improve the lives of millions. Our Deworm the World Program has helped governments in Africa and Asia deliver over 1.8 billion childhood deworming treatments, improving health, education, and incomes. Safe Water Now provides sustained safe water access to over 10 million people in Africa, preventing childhood illness and deaths.

We drive innovation: Our Accelerator builds the next generation of exceptional programs, taking an approach most similar to a venture capital model. We are ruthless in exiting programs that do not meet our criteria; those that advance deliver outsized impact for millions of people.

We are global. Across nine countries in Africa and Asia, our 700+ people are united by a tremendous passion for our mission and impact. We are strong because of our diversity of experience, geography, and background—with over 90% of our people in the countries where our impact is focused.

We have big ambitions. Over the next decade, we’re setting our sights higher: We aim to reach over 600 million people globally to fulfill our vision of a world where hundreds of millions of people in the poorest places have better opportunities and their lives are measurably improved. We believe in bold and urgent action—because poverty doesn’t wait, and neither should we.

We need great people. Our success to date is due to the collective work of our amazing staff. To achieve our ambitious goals, we are looking for people who share our passion for evidence, cost-effectiveness, and scale. We seek individuals who take an entrepreneurial approach, enjoy tackling hard problems, and have a bias to action and results. If our vision and approach excite you as much as they do us, we invite you to join us.

Job Purpose

This role supports the Associate Manager, Programs across the Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) pilot and light-touch Syphilis Free Start (SFS) technical assistance in Liberia. The intern will assist with field-level coordination, documentation, and data support, gaining hands-on exposure to program implementation, government engagement, and donor reporting processes.

This is a developmental role: the incoming intern will be directly supervised and mentored by the Associate Manager Programs.

Duties and responsibilities

1. KMC Pilot Support (approx. 70–75%)

  • Support field visits to pilot facilities — assist with data collection, note-taking, and logging observations from site walkthroughs.
  • Help draft and format trip reports following the team's standard structure (purpose, key findings, action items with owners and deadlines).
  • Assist in scheduling and preparing materials for meetings with Ministry of Health, County Health Team, and other government counterparts.
  • Track follow-up items and deadlines from government and stakeholder meetings, flagging outstanding actions to the Associate Manager.
  • Support monitoring of supply chain and commodity tracking relevant to the pilot, escalating gaps as needed.
  • Help organize and file documentation on lessons learned and implementation challenges for internal reporting

2. SFS Technical Assistance Support (approx. 15–20%)

  • Assist with coordination and logistics for NACP meetings related to SFS sustainability
  • Support monthly data review preparation and help compile performance summaries
  • Track follow-up items from NACP and supply chain stakeholder discussions

3. General Support (approx. 10%)

  • Assist in preparing updates and materials for regional/WCA program meetings
  • Provide general administrative and coordination support as needed

Key performance Indicators

  • Field Support: Actively participate in field visits and draft trip reports using the standard format, with supervisor input. Build greater independence with each visit.
  • Coordination & Stakeholder Support: Prepare meeting materials, take notes, and support logistics for KMC and NACP meetings. Demonstrate reliability and take on more initiative over time.
  • Follow-Up & Action Tracking: Maintain a running list of follow-ups and action items across KMC and SFS work. Keep it consistently updated and refine it based on feedback.
  • Judgment & Data Support: Identify and raise potential gaps, such as supply chain issues, and assist with compiling data summaries under guidance. Develop awareness and accuracy gradually.
  • Communication & Follow-Through: Respond to assigned tasks, ask questions when unsure, and flag delays proactively. Demonstrate increasing consistency and clarity.
  • Professional Growth: Come prepared for weekly 1:1s and raise questions or observations beyond assigned tasks. Build confidence and make proactive engagement a regular habit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, Nursing, social sciences, or related field
  • Strong written communication skills; comfortable drafting structured notes and summaries
  • Willingness to travel to field sites, including Maryland County and other pilot locations
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple follow-up items
  • Interest in maternal and neonatal health, public health systems, or program implementation is a plus

Sobre Evidence Action

We do development differently.

Evidence Action is a global nonprofit organization with an approach distinctive in international development – we exclusively scale interventions that are backed by strong evidence and can be delivered with exceptional cost-effectiveness. We take a data-driven approach to identifying and scaling interventions which deliver outsized impact for the hundreds of millions of impoverished individuals who are our clients. We deploy deep expertise in building for scale, coupled with a focus on rigorous measurement and continuous program improvement, to ensure these solutions measurably improve the lives of millions.

We deliver tremendous impact.

Our programs – in health, nutrition, and safe water – have grown since our founding in 2013 to reach over 280 million people annually. Our Deworm the World Initiative has helped governments across Asia and Africa deliver over 1.3 billion childhood deworming treatments – which have been shown to increase long-term income by 13%. This places deworming among the most cost-effective income generation programs in the world, as ranked by charity evaluators such as GiveWell and The Life You Can Save. Our Dispensers for Safe Water program provides sustained safe water access to over 4 million people in rural Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi. Our last-mile delivery network services communities through a free-to-use, human-centric design that increases usage over 5 times that of traditional water treatment options, preventing childhood illness and deaths caused by unsafe water. Dispensers for Safe Water has been recognized by Charity Navigator for its high cost-effectiveness, by Expo2020 as one of only 25 Global Best Practice Programmes, and a chlorine dispenser now resides in the Nobel Museum, selected by 2019 Nobel laureate Michael Kremer – whose work was integral to the program’s development.

We drive innovation.

Evidence Action’s Accelerator builds the next generation of exceptional programs, taking an approach most similar to a venture capital model. We thoughtfully advance promising new programs through a rigorous, 6 stage process – from desk research to testing at large scale. We are ruthless in exiting programs which do not meet our criteria on scalability, evidence of impact, and cost-effectiveness, ensuring that the programs that do advance deliver outsized impact for millions of people.

We are global.

Over 400 individuals work on our programs across eight countries – Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, Pakistan, Uganda, India, and the United States, including both Evidence Action staff and close partners. We are united by a tremendous passion for our mission and the impact that together we create. We are strong because of our diversity of experience, geography, and background – with over 90% of our people in the countries where our impact is focused. This spirit, and our culture, are guided by a set of core values that underpin our work. These values embody our focus on evidence, urgency, iteration, and incessance in our search for solutions.

We have big ambitions.

Our goal is to double our impact by 2024, to fulfill our vision of a world where hundreds of millions of people in the poorest places have better opportunities and their lives are measurably improved. We believe in bold and urgent action – because poverty doesn’t wait, and neither should we.

We need great people.

Our success to date is due to the collective work of our amazing staff. To achieve our ambitious goals, we need to grow our team. We are looking for people who share our passion for following the evidence, seeking cost-effective ways of working, and operating at scale. We seek individuals who take an entrepreneurial approach, enjoy tackling hard problems, and iterate to achieve the best solutions – and know that people with these skills come from many professional backgrounds.

If our vision and approach excite you as much as it does us, we invite you to join us.
