Model Validation Credit Risk – Guild Lead IFRS 9 Model Validation
The team
Model Validation Credit Risk is part of Model Risk Management. We provide independent assurance that credit risk models are fit for their intended use and that their risks and limitations are properly understood and managed.
The IFRS 9 Guild brings together specialists responsible for the validation of IFRS 9 credit risk models used to determine expected credit losses. The scope covers the validation of model design, data, implementation and performance, including probability of default, loss given default, exposure at default, staging and expected credit loss. The Guild also considers the impact of feeder models, post-model adjustments and changing economic conditions on IFRS 9 model risk.
The role
We are looking for an experienced and authoritative Guild Lead IFRS 9 Model Validation. You will provide functional leadership across the IFRS 9 validation domain and ensure a consistent, risk-based and high-quality validation approach across portfolios.
You combine deep technical expertise with sound judgement and the ability to bring together validators, Chapter Leads and senior stakeholders. You translate developments in accounting, regulation, modelling and model risk management into practical validation standards and priorities.
The role requires leadership through expertise and influence. You will set direction for the Guild, challenge complex technical assessments, promote consistency in validation conclusions and help the organization make well-informed decisions on IFRS 9 model risk.
Your key responsibilities
- Lead the IFRS 9 Model Validation Guild and set its direction, priorities and agenda.
- Maintain and further develop the IFRS 9 validation framework, including the procedure, manual, guidance, templates, key controls and supporting methodologies.
- Ensure consistent and proportionate application of validation requirements across model classes, portfolios and validation types.
- Provide expert guidance on complex IFRS 9 topics, including PD, LGD, EAD, staging, expected credit loss, macroeconomic adjustments, feeder-model dependencies and post-model adjustments.
- Drive consistent assessment of model findings, their severity, model footprints and proposed mitigating actions.
- Perform or coordinate quality assurance across IFRS 9 validation reports and identify improvements to validation methods and standards.
- Support the planning and prioritisation of IFRS 9 validation activities, taking account of model risk, regulatory commitments, redevelopment programmes and emerging issues.
- Provide senior review and challenge on material or judgement-intensive validation matters.
- Build an active professional community within the Guild, facilitating knowledge sharing, technical development and collaboration across locations and chapters.
- Work closely with Model Development, Model Owners, Finance, Credit Risk, Model Risk Oversight and relevant governance committees, while safeguarding the independence of Model Validation.
- Represent Model Validation Credit Risk in senior internal and external discussions on IFRS 9 model risk, including interactions with regulators and auditors where required.
- Monitor relevant regulatory, accounting, methodological and market developments and translate these into concrete implications for the IFRS 9 validation approach.
- Contribute to the broader strategy and continuous improvement of Model Validation Credit Risk, including opportunities for automation, data improvement and advanced analytics.
The IFRS 9 Guild also performs an annual independent quality assessment of IFRS 9 validation reports, aimed at assessing consistent application of the validation framework and identifying improvements to the supporting documentation.
How to succeed
We are looking for someone who:
- Has deep knowledge of IFRS 9 impairment modelling and expected credit loss, including PD, LGD, EAD, staging and forward-looking information.
- Has extensive experience in credit risk modelling, model validation, model risk management or a closely related quantitative risk discipline.
- Understands the interaction between IFRS 9 models, underlying feeder models, model monitoring, post-model adjustments and provisioning governance.
- Can form independent, well-substantiated judgements on technically complex and potentially material model-risk matters.
- Can provide effective challenge while maintaining constructive relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Has a strong understanding of relevant accounting, regulatory and model-risk requirements.
- Can translate complex quantitative matters into clear messages for technical and non-technical decision-makers.
- Demonstrates functional leadership, creates alignment across teams and helps specialists develop their expertise.
- Works in a structured and pragmatic way, with a strong focus on quality, consistency and delivery.
- Has strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
What we offer
This is a senior expert leadership role with significant impact on the quality and consistency of IFRS 9 model validation.
