JOB SUMMARY

ONEOK is seeking an Instrumentation Technician – Intermediate to support the safe, reliable operation of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, analyzer, measurement, control, and automation systems within ONEOK’s Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) segment. This role will install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain a variety of field equipment and systems, including instrumentation, switchgear, power distribution, SCADA, DCS, PLC systems, analyzers, transmitters, VFDs, motors, ESD systems, and related control equipment. The position will also maintain required records, support DOT-covered functions as applicable, and respond promptly to operating, safety, or equipment concerns.

This role is based on site in Lemont, IL and will also help support surrounding areas such as Morris and Rockford. Candidates must live within a reasonable drive time to Lemont, be able to work a Monday–Friday schedule, and participate in an on-call rotation. A company vehicle will be assigned, so a clean driving record is required.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on instrumentation and electrical experience, with preferred exposure to switchgear and PLC programming. An associate degree or certificate in electronics, electrical engineering, or a similar field is preferred, though equivalent experience will also be considered. Successful candidates will be self-starters who take initiative, work well independently and as part of a team, communicate effectively across teams and functions, and demonstrate a strong commitment to safe work practices in high-pressure and flammable gas or liquids environments.

Inspects and maintains and installs various electrical/electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, analyzers, measurement, control and automation systems, and related equipment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate/adjust, and maintain the following equipment including but not limited to:
    • Gravitometers/Densitometers
    • Chromatographs
    • Telemetering systems
    • Moisture analyzers
    • ESD systems
    • Electronic odorization systems
    • AC Power distribution systems - single phase and three phase: 120V, 240V, 480V, 4160V
    • Motors
    • Switchgear
    • VFDs
    • Soft starters
    • 24V DC systems
    • Instrumentation
    • Flow computers
    • Pressure transmitters
    • Level transmitters
    • Flow transmitters
    • Temperature transmitters
    • Thermocouples 
    • Meter tubes and orifice plates
    • Satellite equipment
    • Analytical equipment
    • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and remote terminal units and equipment
    • Distributed Control System (DCS)
    • Programmable Logic Control (PLC) systems
    • Perform preventative maintenance and/or analytical testing on compressors/engines, drivers, and auxiliary equipment
    • Maintain electrical power circuits, switch gear, and power distribution
    • Install and maintain security/intrusion systems
    • Drive and ensure maintenance is complete on company vehicle
  • Maintain and/or prepare reports and/or records including but not limited to:
    • Maintenance and repair records
    • Safety and environmental reports
    • Mechanical drawings
    • Electrical schematics and diagrams
    • Pressure readings
    • Material and supply orders
    • Loop sheets
  • Responsibilities may include Department of Transportation (DOT) covered functions, including operations, calibration documentation, maintenance, or emergency response on a pipeline. Job duties also require the employee to be alert and respond immediately to dangerous or hazardous conditions, and where impaired performance, or failure to follow safety precautions, could result in serious injury or property damage.

Education

  • Associate Degree or certificate in electronics, electrical engineering, or similar preferred. Equivalent experience also considered.

Work Experience

  • Experience in use and function of tools and equipment applicable to position including but not limited to:
    • Hand tools
    • Power tools
    • Electronic test equipment such as DVOM, amp clamp, and mega ohm meter
    • Gauges
    • Control devices
  • Experience and training related to:
    • Petroleum processing fundamentals
    • Computers and Software
    • Governmental rules & regulations
    • National Electric Code
    • Company policies and procedures including safe handling practices for flammable gases, liquids, and high pressure systems
    • Lockout Tagout
    • Reliability Based Programs

  • Experience reading and interpreting maintenance orders, mechanical and electrical drawings, P&ID’s, procedures, charts, diagrams, and equipment manuals
  • Experience preparing, processing, or verifying maintenance and repair records, safety and environmental reports, electrical schematics and diagrams, pressure readings, and material and supply orders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of: the use and function of reciprocating or gas turbine engines, compressors, and electronic and processing equipment applicable to position
  • Knowledge of: instrumentation, electronics, tools and control systems
  • Ability to: apply addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and algebraic formulas
  • Ability to: communicate and/or exchange written and verbal information and instructions
