About the Position:

The HSE Project Specialist is responsible for coordinating and supporting the effective delivery of HSE-related projects across ALS Geochemistry’s North America operations (Canada, USA, and Mexico) by applying practical knowledge of HSE requirements, project management principles and internal company standards. The role supports project planning, coordination, implementation, tracking and reporting to ensure HSE initiatives are completed on time and in alignment with regulatory and ALS requirements.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning, execution, and monitoring of HSE-related projects across North America operations to ensure alignment with company objectives, regulatory requirements, and internal HSE standards.

  • Assist in developing project plans, timelines, deliverables, milestones, and action trackers for HSE initiatives and projects.

  • Coordinate HSE project activities across multiple departments, sites, or stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and follow-up.

  • Coordinate with site teams to ensure HSE project requirements are clearly understood, assigned, and implemented consistently.

  • Prepare regular project status updates, reports, dashboards, and presentations for management and key stakeholders

  • Assist with internal audits, inspections, field verifications, and readiness reviews related to HSE project implementation

  • Support internal audits and inspections by coordinating audit schedules and activities across applicable sites.

  • Support change management (MOC) activities related to HSE projects, including communication plans, training needs, stakeholder engagement, and implementation support.

  • Develop, maintain and administer HSE document control and  document rollout across ALS Geochemistry’s North America operations.

  • Contribute to Regional risk assessment processes (e.g., JHA/JSA, hazard identification, risk ranking) and maintain associated documentation and KPI

  • Administer tracking of proactive and reactive HSE indicators (e.g., leading indicators such as inspection and training completion rates; lagging indicators such as incident rates and TRIF/LTI) for reporting to the Regional HSE Manager;

  • Assist with preparation and organization of materials for HSE audits and inspections;

  • Support development and distribution of training materials for regional HSE programs;

  • Track action items related to Regional HSE initiatives through to completion, and identify gaps or inconsistencies in HSE documentation across sites for resolution;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail, particularly around document control and version management;

  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical HSE requirements into clear, consistent documentation;

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with site-based HSE Coordinators and remote stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions (Canada, USA, and Mexico);

  • Proficiency with document management systems (e.g., SharePoint) and MS Office, particularly Excel.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Occupational Health & Safety, ideally within an industrial, laboratory, or field operations environment.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining chemical exposure control plans;

  • Strong working knowledge of risk assessment methodologies (e.g., JHA/JSA, hazard identification, risk ranking and control hierarchies);

  • Experience building and tracking proactive and reactive HSE indicators (e.g., leading indicators such as inspection/observation rates and training completion; lagging indicators such as incident rates and TRIF/LTI);

  • Experience working across multi-site or multi-country operations is an asset.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit at a desk and perform general office work for extended periods, with periodic computer/screen use.

  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) as required when visiting laboratory or field sites;

  • Ability to travel periodically to ALS sites across Canada, the USA, and Mexico, including air and ground travel

Our benefits includes:

  • An estimated annual salary of $95,000 - $105,000 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
