About the Company

General Matter is enriching uranium in America.

Our goal is to design, build, and operate the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services in the United States.

Our mission is to restore America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel—fuel that will power AI, advanced manufacturing, critical industries, and the next generation of nuclear reactors.

Ultimately, our work will help power national ambitions and enable a high-energy society.

We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by top-tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.

We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.

Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.

About This Role

We are seeking an experienced Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) Leader to shape the safety foundation for a new NRC-licensed uranium enrichment facility regulated under 10 CFR Part 70. This is a rare opportunity to expand our ISA program, influence facility design from early engineering through operations, serve as a key technical partner to the NRC, and develop a high-performing safety analysis team supporting a critical domestic nuclear fuel capability.

Responsibilities

Program Leadership

  • Build, own, and continuously improve the ISA program in accordance with 10 CFR Part 70 Subpart H
  • Develop program procedures, standards, tools, training, and risk-informed decision-making practices
  • Set the technical direction for ISA, IROFS, Management Measures, and the facility safety basis
  • Build, mentor, and manage a team of ISA engineers and safety analysts

Regulatory & Technical Execution

  • Lead the ISA Summary, Safety Analysis Report, license application materials, and responses to NRC requests
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for NRC audits, inspections, and review meetings
  • Lead hazard identification, accident sequence modeling, consequence analysis, likelihood determination, and PHAs using HAZOP, What-If, FMEA, and related methods
  • Oversee risk assessments for nuclear criticality, chemical and fire hazards, natural phenomena, and external events
  • Review and maintain IROFS and Management Measures, ensuring design and operational changes receive appropriate safety evaluation

Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering, operations, licensing, quality, and criticality safety teams to shape facility decisions from design through commissioning, startup, and operations
  • Advise company leadership on safety risk, regulatory strategy, and high-impact design decisions

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, nuclear, or related engineering field; advanced degree preferred
  • 8+ years in nuclear safety analysis, process safety, or a comparable high-hazard environment, including 3+ years in a leadership or lead technical role
  • Experience developing or materially contributing to an ISA, SAR, or equivalent safety basis
  • Expertise in ISA and PHA methods such as HAZOP, What-If, and FMEA; familiarity with criticality, fire, and external hazard analyses
  • Experience working with regulators and translating complex requirements into executable program
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for conveying technical safety data to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, operations, and licensing teams.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Direct experience with NRC 10 CFR Part 70 licensing and guidance, including NUREG-1513 and NUREG-1520
  • Experience with fuel-cycle facilities, enrichment operations, or nuclear chemical processes
  • Prior ISA, safety analysis, or licensing leadership at an NRC-licensed facility
  • Experience building safety programs in startup, greenfield, or rapid-growth environments
  • Knowledge of uranium enrichment technologies, vacuum systems, cryogenics, or compressible flow
  • PE, CSP, NRC criticality safety qualification, or other relevant credential

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

Sobre General Matter

General Matter is enriching uranium in America.

Our mission is to restore US leadership in nuclear fuel. This fuel will power AI, manufacturing, and other critical industries. It will enable the next generation of reactors and the reactors powering ~20% of the US grid today. Ultimately, it will power our national ambitions.

If we don’t do it, no one will.  Half a century ago, the US held a majority of all global enrichment capacity. Today we are forced to rely on foreign powers and their state-backed, state-controlled entities for the nuclear fuel that powers nearly 20% of our nation’s grid.

We are fixing this. By uniting the nation’s finest minds from technology, nuclear engineering, national security, and finance, we are building a new way to enrich uranium, here at home. The fuel we are enriching will be cheaper, more reliable, and more abundant than ever before, and it will result in a stronger America.

As we build our team we are seeking the highest caliber engineers, technologists, creative minds, and numbers savants. We offer high standards, extreme ownership, copious autonomy, deep trust, and zero politics. We believe that despite our ambitious mission, our chances of success are great. If you are someone who will further tilt those odds in our favor, we want to talk to you.
