Scope of work:

The Obstetrician/Gynecologist will support the IRC Primary Health Care (PHC)/Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) team in Za’atari Camp by providing high-quality outpatient SRH services for women and adolescent girls.

The OB/GYN will provide comprehensive clinical care, including antenatal and postnatal follow-up, management of common obstetric and gynecological conditions, family planning counselling and provision, STI screening and management, post-abortion care, and clinical decision-making for referral of women requiring facility-based delivery, emergency obstetric care, or specialized neonatal care. Clinical management will be aligned with MoH/WHO protocols and IRC SOPs.

The role includes maintaining accurate clinical documentation and prescriptions, ensuring timely data entry into the Health Information System (HIS), supporting clinical supervision and quality improvement activities, and contributing to patient education on birth preparedness, danger signs, and SRH prevention.

Key Responsibilities:

The OB/GYN will be specifically responsible for achieving the following objectives:

• Provide outpatient SRH/OBGYN consultations in accordance with MoH/WHO protocols.
• Provide ANC follow-up and risk screening; identify complications and initiate timely referral for advanced care and delivery planning.
• Provide postnatal follow-up where relevant, including assessment of maternal danger signs and newborn wellbeing, and link clients to required services.
• Provide comprehensive family planning counselling and provision in line with national guidance, including method eligibility screening and follow-up.
• Screen, diagnose, and manage sexually transmitted infections and related reproductive tract conditions; provide counselling and partner management advice as appropriate.
• Provide post-abortion care and counselling in line with humanitarian and national standards, including referral when complications are identified.
• Coordinate referrals for facility-based deliveries, obstetric complications, and neonatal complications; ensure referral outcomes are tracked and documented.
• Ensure accurate documentation of SRH consultations, follow-up plans, prescriptions, and referrals in the HIS, including same-day data entry when possible.
• Participate in clinical supervision, mentoring, and case discussions with PHC/SRH staff to strengthen service quality and adherence to SOPs.

Representation and Coordination:

• Represent the PHC/SRH team in coordination meetings, health activities, and service delivery events as assigned.
• Coordinate closely with IRC health staff, MoH services, UNHCR/referral hub, and relevant partners to ensure continuity of care and effective referral pathways for obstetric and SRH cases.
• Participate in patient/community meetings and feedback activities related to SRH service quality and access, as required.

Main Requirements:

Education:

1.    Specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology (Jordanian Board).

Work Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology, preferably within PHC or outpatient SRH settings.

• Proven experience in SRH service delivery, including ANC/PNC follow-up, management of obstetric and gynecological conditions, family planning, STI services, post-abortion care, and referral for delivery and obstetric emergencies.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

• Strong skills in clinical decision-making, prescribing, and chronic disease case management, including treatment adjustment and complication prevention.

Certificates or Licenses:

• Valid license to practice medicine in Jordan (Jordan Medical Association / MoH licensing requirements).

Working Environment:

This position is based in Mafraq (Za’atari Camp). The security situation in IRC intervention areas is currently stable. IRC’s Security Department provides regular updates to ensure that management and staff remain informed of any new developments and security-related changes.
