The Role

We are seeking an experienced Graphene Process Development & Innovation Engineer at Black Semiconductor to lead the development, integration, optimization, and manufacturing implementation of graphene transfer, lamination, patterning, and related wet processes for next-generation IGP™ devices.

This role combines graphene process development, equipment integration, wafer handling/lamination, wet processing, and manufacturing engineering. You will work across the technology lifecycle, from R&D and process development through equipment qualification, fab startup, production ramp-up, and sustained manufacturing.

You will work closely with Process Integration, Device, Equipment, Facilities, Metrology, Manufacturing, R&D, and external technology partners to develop reliable, scalable, and manufacturable graphene solutions.

Graphene Process Development

• Lead the development and optimization of graphene transfer, lamination, handling, patterning, and related wet processes for IGP™ applications.

• Develop scalable graphene process flows from R&D through qualification and manufacturing ramp-up.

• Develop and optimize wet processes, including cleaning, surface preparation, chemical treatment, resist processing, graphene patterning, and post-process cleaning.

• Establish process windows to achieve the required graphene quality, adhesion, uniformity, cleanliness, pattern fidelity, and device performance.

• Evaluate and qualify new materials, chemicals, tapes, carriers, processes, and technologies for graphene integration.

• Drive process innovation and solve complex graphene integration and manufacturing challenges.

Equipment Development & Integration

• Lead the development and integration of graphene transfer, lamination, wafer mounting, tape application, wafer handling, and wet-process equipment.

• Define equipment requirements, specifications, process capabilities, and automation requirements.

• Support equipment selection, design/modification, installation, commissioning, FAT/SAT, qualification, and production release.

• Work with equipment suppliers and OEMs to develop and modify equipment for Black Semiconductor’s graphene processes.

• Optimize equipment configuration, recipes, wafer handling, vacuum, motion, tension control, and automation.

• Troubleshoot process and equipment issues and lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement

• Drive DOE, process characterization, data analysis, SPC, and process monitoring to improve yield, quality, reliability, and productivity.

• Establish and maintain PORs, process specifications, equipment specifications, recipes, process windows, and control plans.

• Analyze metrology and inspection data to identify process trends, defects, and improvement opportunities.

• Support fab startup, process/equipment qualification, production readiness, yield improvement, throughput, cycle-time improvement, and production ramp-up.

• Develop manufacturing procedures, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and qualification documentation.

• Lead continuous improvement activities focused on yield, quality, throughput, equipment reliability, safety, and cost of ownership.

Collaboration & Technology Transfer

• Collaborate with Process Integration, Device, Equipment, Facilities, Metrology, Manufacturing, Quality, and R&D teams to solve technical challenges.

• Work with chemical, material, equipment, and technology suppliers to evaluate and qualify new solutions.

• Lead technical discussions with external partners, universities, research institutes, and equipment suppliers.

• Transfer process knowledge from R&D into manufacturing in a controlled and scalable manner.

• Support technician and engineer training for graphene processes and equipment.
  

Your Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

• 3+ years of semiconductor, advanced materials, advanced packaging, wafer processing, or related manufacturing experience.

• Strong experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Graphene or 2D-material processing and integration

  • Graphene transfer and handling

  • Wafer lamination, mounting, or tape application

  • Thin-wafer handling

  • Wet and chemical processing

  • Advanced packaging or wafer-level manufacturing

  • Semiconductor equipment development and integration
