The Role
The Visual Merchandising Manager is a commercial role accountable for translating Love, Bonito's brand and product strategy into visual execution in-store that drives conversion, basket size, and sell-through across all markets. This role balances strong brand expression and customer experience with measurable commercial performance, ensuring that every display, adjacency, and layout decision supports clear business outcomes. It sits at the intersection of Merchandising (what to sell), Retail Operations (how stores run), and Marketing/Branding (how the brand story is told).
Scope and Accountability
- Accountable for VM-attributable commercial metrics — display-level conversion, basket/AOV uplift, sell-through by placement.
- Sets the global visual merchandising standard and point of view across all markets.
- Based in Singapore and covering our global retail stores, this role diagnoses, recommends and ensures tight execution of VM standards in-market
- Global in-store assets management: respond to in store signages and VM assets, create the design brief and align with the Creative team, including the store LED and TV Screen content brief
- Owns the global VM budget — props, fixtures, signage, and in-store visual production — planned against the seasonal range calendar and phased across markets by commercial priority (footfall, store format, launch calendar). Spend is allocated and prioritised based on expected conversion and basket impact while supporting the intended brand expression, and reported alongside the VM KPI dashboard so budget efficiency is evidenced.
Main responsibilities
1. Commercial Visual Strategy
- Translate the seasonal range and buy plan into visual concepts and floor/window strategy designed explicitly to maximise sell-through and full-price capture, not just visual appeal.
- Own product placement, adjacency, and cross-sell staging logic to lift basket size and AOV.
- Partner with Merchandising to prioritise which categories and SKUs receive visual real estate based on buying investment and sell-through performance, while balancing commercial priorities with the intended brand expression.
- Build global VM guidelines and toolkits that scale across markets with different store formats and footprints.
- Lead visual strategy for new store openings, renovations, and seasonal campaign rollouts.
2. Commercial Performance & Execution
- Develop and own the VM commercial KPI framework, linking visual execution to conversion, basket size, and sell-through at the display and store level, including regular in-person and remote store audits against VM and commercial standards.
- Partner with country retail teams on execution standards and store team training so VM directives land correctly at store level.
- Partner with Brand Marketing and Creative on upstream campaign alignment so visual storytelling is consistent online and in-store.
- Use conversion, basket, and sell-through data to proactively flag where visual execution is underperforming.
- Create the VM guideline for stores team to execute separate to main 2 guidelines
- Standard setting: As a Retail Bible to make sure that the display is commercial and impacts sales and customers shopping behaviour e.g. zoning, store style count, optimum unit to display
- Weekly or Monthly Update: To update the theme of new arrivals to the store to highlight mannequin outfits, focus items, wall display focus
- Develop training tools such as visual merchandising manuals and guidebooks for the in-store teams on product placement, product journey, product flow, and product features.
3. Leadership & Talent
- Lead and develop a multi-market VM team, including remote in-market hires. Be able to influence and guide in-store VM ambassadors and own the end to end visual merchandising execution
- Build VM capability as a commercial discipline — train the function to think in conversion and basket terms, not just aesthetics.
- Identify and close capability gaps where store-level execution is not translating strategy correctly.
- Build trusted working relationships with Merchandising, Retail Operations, Creative and Marketing leads.
Requirements
- 6–8 years of visual merchandising experience in fashion or lifestyle retail, including experience supporting regional or multi-market VM programmes.
- At least 2 years of experience leading a team or managing VM projects across multiple markets.
- Strong understanding of store zoning, product presentation, mannequin styling, customer flow, and in-store communication.
- A commercial mindset with the ability to use sales data, customer insights, and store feedback to guide VM decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to translate brand and product strategies into clear, practical VM direction for store teams.
- Strong people leadership and communication skills, with the ability to coach teams and manage constructive discussions across different markets and functions.
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple launches, priorities, and timelines.
- Experience in VM budget planning, vendor management, and cost control.
- A strong visual eye, attention to detail, and awareness of global fashion, retail, and customer experience trends.
- Able to work effectively in a fast-moving environment and respond calmly to changing priorities.
- Hands-on and collaborative, with the willingness to support store execution and travel across markets when required.
