The Strategic Market Manager is accountable for the global market segment strategy and leading critical initiatives that deliver profitable growth for their respective global market segment/s within PPG’s Industrial Coatings business.  The role reports to the Head of Strategic Marketing, Industrial Coatings.  The Strategic Market Manager is an innovator and core contributor to PPG’s long-term success.  The global market segment strategy will consider global macro trends, market and industry dynamics, greater PPG innovation strategies and manufacturing supply capabilities.  Great Strategic Market Managers establish themselves internally and externally as industry experts and valued confidants on the business drivers and strategic path forward.  Once established they have superior influencing skills to drive the strategy within PPG’s globally matrixed organization.

Areas of accountability:

• Establish/maintain global market intelligence - including industry trends, market drivers, competitive analysis, value chain, and customer needs - to inform business strategies

• Develop and implement mid- to long-term business and strategic market strategies and plans; including aligning and prioritizing product portfolio, technical capability, production capacities, cost targets, cross-region initiatives, and market needs to the strategic plan
• Connect the global strategic market segment strategy to the regions and global key account plans and vice versa
• Focus on the “who” and the “why”, the “jobs to be done”, and the “desired outcomes” in order to build and deliver the right products and services.

• Create pull through the value chain by developing relationships and aligning all key external and internal stakeholders

• Set market segment value creation strategy for global products within the segment

• Incorporate value capture into the sales process through use of commercial excellence tools, branding, and other communication initiatives

Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required with MBA preferred
• Minimum of 10 years proven market experience in strategy development and market analysis
• Commercial experience, including customer-facing
• Analytical experience defining problems/situations, collecting and analysing data, and presenting findings with clear recommendations
• Demonstrated ability to turn insights into strategic plans that are actionable
