The Geology Intern will spend the summer working alongside EQT's geoscientists to better understand the subsurface and contribute to projects across the Geology Team. The position will provide exposure to geologic work that supports development planning, drilling operations, reservoir characterization, and emerging subsurface opportunities.
The intern will work with well and geologic datasets and have the opportunity to take ownership of technical projects that address current questions facing the team. Projects may range from evaluating drilling and development results to regional stratigraphic studies, reservoir characterization, data integration, or other subsurface investigations.
Because the Geology Team supports a broad range of activities, specific projects will be selected based on current business needs and the intern's background, interests, and technical skill set.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with geologists and other technical disciplines to evaluate subsurface questions and develop geologic interpretations.
- Minimum GPA of 3.5
- Assist with development and operations geology, including well planning, drilling results, and post-well evaluations.
- Analyze well logs, drilling information, and other subsurface datasets to identify geologic trends and relationships.
- Perform stratigraphic correlations and develop maps, cross sections, and other geologic interpretations.
- Contribute to reservoir characterization studies focused on understanding geologic variability and its impact on development.
- Support ongoing investigation of the stratigraphic and reservoir relationships between the Marcellus and Geneseo.
- Organize, consolidate, and quality-control geologic information to make existing datasets more accessible and useful for future technical work.
- Develop a technical project or analysis and communicate findings to the Geology Team and other stakeholders.
- Participate in technical discussions with geologists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers, drilling teams, and other disciplines.
- Gain exposure to additional areas of subsurface work, which may include exploration, CCUS, geophysics, or other geologic programs based on project needs.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a student enrolled in a Master's program in Geology, Geoscience, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in applied geology, subsurface interpretation, and the energy industry.
- Coursework in areas such as stratigraphy, sedimentology, structural geology, petroleum geology, or petrophysics is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in working with geologic and quantitative datasets.
- Ability to organize information, recognize geologic relationships, and communicate technical observations and conclusions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with geologic interpretation, GIS, mapping, data analytics, or visualization software is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and an ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn new geologic concepts, datasets, and technical workflows.
