About the role
The General Manager Austria and Switzerland (ACH) is responsible for leading operations in Switzerland and Austria. The role is part of the DACH (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) Senior Leadership Team and reports to the General Manager DACH.
As AIG’s General Manager, ,ACH you will drive strategic initiatives, oversee operations, and hold full P&L responsibility, supporting business performance across both countries through your leadership team.
Business Management
- Lead the Austrian and Swiss branches with full accountability for underwriting discipline, portfolio quality, and sustainable growth.
- Own the Austrian and Swiss P&L, including delivery against profitability and growth targets.
- Develop and execute country business strategies (within AIG GI International parameters) and annual financial plans for both markets.
- Steer distribution performance across channels, with particular focus on strategic broker partnerships, retention, and new production.
- Ensure high-performing operations across Underwriting, Claims, Distribution, and all support functions.
- Monitor, report, and proactively address operational risks, opportunities, and development plans against agreed company objectives.
- Drive continuous operational improvement initiatives with clear impact on service quality, efficiency, and cost discipline.
- Ensure robust governance, systems, controls, and full regulatory compliance across both country organizations, including effective local regulatory engagement.
External Relationship Management
- Represent AIG with major clients and broker partners to strengthen market position and accelerate profitable growth.
- Expand and elevate the AIG (DACH) brand and external profile across both markets.
- Build, manage, and sustain effective relationships with regulators and key external stakeholders, including escalation and issue-resolution leadership when required.
People Management
- Lead hiring and resource allocation decisions in line with regional and global governance structures.
- Build and sustain a diverse, inclusive, and high-performance culture across both countries.
- Drive talent identification, succession planning, and leadership development to ensure a strong pipeline of future leaders.
- Set clear performance expectations, coach leaders, and hold teams accountable for results and behaviors.
- Communicate the AIG DACH vision, mission, and strategic direction of AIG GI International with clarity and consistency.
- Serve as an active member of the DACH Senior Leadership Team.

- Several years of experience leading country operations or large functional/product teams within the DACH region.
- Strategic and results-oriented leader who translates bold vision into actionable plans and measurable business outcomes.
- Ability to represent AIG persuasively in internal and external forums, including client and broker meetings and industry events.
- Proven track record of operating successfully within an international insurance carrier and navigating cross-border complexity.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in written and spoken German and English.
