Job Description:
What's the role
This dynamic and exciting external facing role has the key responsibility of originating, developing and closing deals that add to the T&S Products traded portfolio, with a focus on structured, mid to long term, deals in the Products Freight markets. As part of this role, you will develop and manage existing and new counterparties, develop new businesses, and look to create new trading structures that unlock value for Shell and the counterparty. This role will work synergistically with individual books within Global Products Freight to drive full end-to-end value.
Originators are the prime relationship custodians from a Freight business development perspective, with both existing and new external counterparts, and with the relevant internal stakeholders in the region.
What you’ll be doing
Key Accountabilities:
- Under mandate from individual Freight Trading sub-books, lead medium- to longer-term (5y+) deals through the execution lifecycle
- Develop and implement innovative deal structures in a business where every deal is different and individually structured and negotiated
- Discover, negotiate and propose deal opportunities in-line with the Freight Trading team strategy and will ultimately provide value through trading margin, ROACE, reduced CAPEX burden, security-of-supply, increased access to flow, or a combination of these
- Where applicable, utilise levers such as structured trade financing and/or direct access to lending facilities where this provides a commercial edge
- Form and maintain regional strategic partnerships with the intent of delivering mutual longer-term value
- Contribute to maximising profitability. Collaboration is key, as is the ability to work in conjunction with others in a team
- Lead deal teams and / or act as the commercial lead in deals where relevant
- Coordinate activities with other Shell businesses and stakeholders. This will include providing support and engagement where necessary to various Shell teams in the region on mid-term and long-term opportunities, working with other parts of T&S and other parts of Shell
- Develop, negotiate, deliver and close deals directly or through others
- Develop market and competitor intelligence in the Origination space for specific Freight sub-markets. Maintain an intimate knowledge of developments & trends within the Freight market & relay back to Freight book-leads to identify potential opportunities. Navigate internal constraints to ensure the maximum range of commercial levers is available to use
- Where the same customer/external partner is touched by multiple parties in Shell, support an integrated approach so as to preserve Enterprise value
- Develop market and competitor intelligence in the Origination space for specific Freight sub-markets
- Hand off deals post close to the Operations and Trading teams, while continuing to contribute to problem resolution if and when required
What we need from you
You need to have a proven track record in the following:
- Knowledge of Freight markets will be very highly regarded. This would include an understanding of shipyard & new-build ordering considerations, range of different longer-term contract constructs, competitor positions, regulatory constraints, international trading patterns
- Knowledge of ship financing structures and drivers/dynamics of key market participants
- Understanding of Trading: knowledge of trading strategies and the mechanics of trading, a sound understanding of value-chains including a solid understanding of technical, commercial and economic considerations
- Opportunity Identification, Development and Execution: spotting commercial opportunities in the marketplace (rather than just managing existing relationships) and managing these from conceptualisation to realization
- Relationship Management: dealing with large customer accounts, suppliers, GIs and JVs including problem resolution
- Negotiating: leading negotiations and closing complex deals
- Project Management of term deals including stakeholder management, both internal and external
- Commercial Skills: including deal-making, contract generation and negotiation; preferably in a trading environment
- Valuation, Economics and Risk management: candidates should have an understanding of, and skill in, Shell approaches to valuations, economics and risk management
- Deal delivery: candidates should have a track record of deal delivery and project management
- It is essential that you can show you are a resilient self-starter, display strong commercial acumen and can contribute effectively to teamwork
- You need to have excellent analytical and numerical skills, as well as communication, influencing and persuasion skills
- Must have the courage to speak up, try new things and challenge the status quo
- A proven ability to work in diverse cultural environments is plus
- Due to the nature of the role, frequent regional business travel is a pre-requisite
