About the Role
We're looking for a Firmware Engineering Co-op to join our engineering team and help design, test, and debug embedded systems that power our products. This role is a great fit for a student combining electrical engineering and computer science coursework who wants hands-on experience with real hardware, communication protocols, and low-level software development.
You'll work alongside experienced firmware and hardware engineers on active projects, gaining exposure to the full embedded development lifecycle — from schematic review and communication interfaces to writing, testing, and debugging firmware on real boards.
What You'll Do
Write and debug firmware in C/C++ for microcontroller-based systems
Implement and troubleshoot communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and Serial (UART)
Use JTAG emulators and debugging tools to identify and resolve hardware/firmware issues
Develop Python scripts to support test automation, data collection, and validation
Use AI tools to accelerate code generation and build test scripts
Support data processing and analysis from test and sensor data
Prototype and validate designs using off-the-shelf development boards (e.g., Arduino, vendor eval boards)
Collaborate with hardware and software teams to bring designs from concept to working prototype
Document code, test procedures, and results clearly for the team
Qualifications
Required:
Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
Proficiency with C/C++
Working knowledge of Python
Preferred:
Coursework or hands-on experience with microcontrollers and basic circuits
Experience with communication interfaces: I2C, SPI, and Serial
Familiarity with JTAG emulators and hardware debugging tools
General understanding of using AI tools to generate code and test scripts
Experience with data processing or analysis
Hands-on experience with development boards such as Arduino or other vendor development kits
What We're Looking For
An ideal candidate blends electrical engineering fundamentals with strong software skills — someone curious about how hardware and software meet, comfortable debugging at the board level, and eager to learn on real projects with real deadlines.
Job Location
Eden Prairie, Minnesota (no relocation or housing assistance available)
