Finance Business Analyst — M-KOPA South Africa

You've proven you can turn numbers into decisions. Now turn them into financial access for millions.
You're good at what you do. Budgets close on time, forecasts hold up, and when a business leader needs a straight answer on the numbers, they come to you. That's not nothing — most finance careers stall long before that level of trust is earned.
But here's the question worth sitting with: how much of that trust is spent explaining what already happened, versus shaping what happens next?
At M-KOPA, we're looking for a Finance Business Partner who's ready to spend less time reporting the past and more time building the future — for a business that's scaling access to essential assets across some of the fastest-growing consumer markets in Africa.

Where M-KOPA is right now
M-KOPA has grown to 10 million customers — up from 5 million just a year ago — unlocking over $2 billion in credit for people who'd otherwise been shut out of formal financial services. 86% of our customers report a real improvement in their quality of life, 70% use what they've financed to generate income, and 55% are accessing financial services for the very first time through us. Behind that: 2,300+ employees, 35,000+ agents, $45 million contributed in taxes, 2 million smartphones assembled in Kenya, and 4,000+ e-motorbikes financed — saving riders $5.62 a day.
Why now
If you've noticed M-KOPA advertising for several finance and business roles at once, that's not a coincidence. We're deliberately building out the finance function that will take us from 7 million customers to 10 million — and a Finance Business Partner sits right at the centre of that. This isn't about backfilling a gap. It's about putting the right commercial finance capability in place before we need it, not after.

What makes this different
In a lot of organisations, "business partnering" quietly becomes bookkeeping with better branding — reconciling accounts, chasing accruals, producing packs nobody reads closely. That's not this role. You'll be the person business leaders actually turn to before a decision gets made, not after. You'll build the business cases behind new market and product bets, challenge assumptions in budgets before they become commitments, and have a direct line into how M-KOPA allocates capital across a fast-moving, multi-market business. The numbers you produce won't just describe the business — they'll help decide where it goes next.
What we need from you
Demonstrable experience building and managing budgets, producing management accounts, and leading planning and forecasting cycles with real commercial rigour.
Proven ability to build and interrogate financial models — business cases, investment appraisals, scenario analysis — with a sharp eye for what the numbers actually mean.
A track record of engaging and influencing senior non-finance stakeholders, translating financial complexity into language that drives decisions.
What you'll actually do
Some weeks look like leading a cost centre's quarterly reforecast — sitting with business owners, pressure-testing their assumptions, and turning that into a forecast the leadership team can trust. Others look like building the investment case for a new market expansion, running the NPV and payback numbers, then presenting it to leaders who'll use it to make a real call. You'll be in the room for operational leadership meetings, not just reporting on them afterwards. And when a business leader needs to understand why their cost base moved the way it did, you'll be the one who can explain it — and tell them what to do about it.
The honest bit
This role moves fast, and it asks a lot: you'll be managing multiple cost centres, several planning cycles running in parallel, and stakeholders who expect sharp answers on short notice. It's not a role for someone who wants finance to be predictable. If that sounds more energising than exhausting, you're probably exactly the kind of person who thrives here.
Let's talk
If you're the kind of finance professional who gets restless producing numbers nobody acts on, and you'd rather be embedded in the decisions than removed from them, this is worth a conversation. No pitch deck, no pressure — just a chance to see if this is the redefinition of business partnering you've been waiting for.
