The U.S. Federal Government Markets Division (USFGMD) is chartered with being the premier, compliant supplier of world-class communications solutions to the U.S. Federal Government by providing the highest quality products, systems, and services. The Federal Systems Technology department is responsible for implementing and integrating complex systems sold worldwide to federal agencies. As a Field Service Technician, you will be exposed to a wide variety of communications requirements across both the pre-sale and post-sale phases of global projects.

Job Description

As the Patch Manager Field Systems Technologist (FST) for Navy ELMR, the world’s largest and most complex ASTRO system, you will perform patching operations for the global enterprise.

Hands-on duties require administering local and remote updates across Windows clients and servers, RHEL servers, McAfee AV, and SQL databases, alongside supporting broader EURAFCENT system and network sustainment activities. You will also submit weekly activity and accomplishment reports to leadership.

Location & Work Setup: This is a 100% on-site role (no remote/telework options) dedicated to a specific U.S. Military Base supported under the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA)—including locations such as Sigonella, Catania, and Naples, Italy—and requires U.S. Citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Implement system and security patch updates as provided by the Motorola Solutions ASTRO Security Update Service.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot patching-related issues in a dynamic, high-stress environment on an Enterprise Land Mobile Radio network.
• Maintain extensive verbal and written communication.
• Assist Master Site FSTs and Engineering teams with normal daily maintenance across master sites, dispatch sites, and RF sites.
• Travel up to 25% annually to support enterprise system maintenance and regional patching efforts.
• Obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret-level security clearance (requiring completion of the Standard Form 86 questionnaire for national security positions).

Required Qualifications

• Must meet Italy SOFA compliance requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree; OR Associate’s Degree plus 4 years of specialized experience, OR High School Diploma / GED plus 8 years of specialized experience.
• Experience in IT systems administration and TCP/IP network administration.
• Must possess or be capable of obtaining CompTIA Security+ certification (or IAT Level II equivalent) within 6 months of employment.
• Must possess or be capable of obtaining ETA CETa certification within 6 months of employment.
• Demonstrated experience in Windows (10/Server), Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and Active Directory administration.
• Hands-on experience with VMware and​ KVM-based virtualization suites and server hardware (HP ProLiant, iLO, Dell PowerEdge).
• Proficient TCP/IP networking knowledge (LAN/WAN) and familiarity with system administration tools (PuTTY, WinSCP, Remote Desktop).
• Strong multi-tasking, organizational, and self-management skills.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suites.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Active CompTIA Network+, MCSE, or CISSP certifications.
• Experience with McAfee security products, ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), and Host-Based Security Systems (HBSS).
• Hands-on experience with Motorola ASTRO systems, P25/LMR infrastructure, MCC7500 dispatch, Zone Core, or NICE Logging (or willingness to learn).
• Working knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) theory, RF trunking site optimization, firewalls, and CAC/PIV authentication systems.
• Experience managing Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Direct Attached Storage (DAS) devices.

Target Base Salary Range: $60,000 - $95,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.

Basic Requirements

• 4+ years experience in one of the following: LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Motorola equipment, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, Networking equipment or Military experience
• Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customers.
