OUR MISSION & VALUES
Our Mission: Improving Lives and Communities. Simplifying Healthcare. Expecting More.
Our Values: Leadership | Community | Integrity | Agility | Diversity
JOB PURPOSE
- Carelon Global Solutions India is seeking a Senior Manager Architecture to lead architecture and end-to-end implementation of enterprise pharmacy management capabilities for CarelonRx.
- The role owns technical vision, solution architecture, engineering execution, implementation readiness, and platform outcomes across complex, multi-system pharmacy transformation programs.
- The position is intentionally weighted toward architecture, engineering, AI-enabled Spec-Driven Development, and large-scale implementation leadership. Delivery administration is a supporting responsibility, not the primary mandate.
- The leader will combine strong software engineering depth with practical pharmacy and PBM domain knowledge to translate business capabilities into secure, scalable, resilient, and operable platforms.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
Enterprise Pharmacy Architecture
- Define and govern target-state solution architecture for end-to-end pharmacy management systems, aligned with enterprise architecture, security, data, privacy, resiliency, and regulatory guardrails.
- Create capability maps, domain boundaries, reference architectures, reusable patterns, integration standards, and modernization roadmaps across the pharmacy ecosystem.
- Lead architecture decisions for microservices, APIs, event streaming, workflow orchestration, data platforms, cloud-native services, observability, and interoperability with legacy platforms.
- Own architecture reviews, trade-off decisions, non-functional requirements, technical debt strategy, and design assurance from concept through production adoption.
End-To-End Pharmacy Platform Implementation
- Lead implementation across relevant pharmacy and PBM capabilities such as benefit configuration, formulary, eligibility, claims adjudication, pricing, prior authorization, pharmacy networks, specialty pharmacy, clinical programs, rebates, member and provider experiences, and operational reporting.
- Translate business journeys and pharmacy operating models into domain-aligned services, data contracts, interfaces, implementation increments, migration plans, and measurable acceptance criteria.
- Own the technical implementation lifecycle covering discovery, architecture, engineering, integration, data conversion, testing strategy, cutover, production readiness, stabilization, and benefits realization.
- Manage cross-platform dependencies and ensure that application, data, infrastructure, security, operations, and vendor workstreams converge into one implementable solution.
- Drive phased rollout, coexistence, migration, and decommissioning strategies that protect member, client, pharmacy, and operational continuity.
AI-Enabled Spec-Driven Development (SDD)
- Establish an AI-first Spec-Driven Development approach in which approved business, architecture, interface, security, testing, and operational specifications become the governed source for implementation.
- Enable engineering agents and copilots to accelerate design elaboration, code generation, test creation, documentation, code review, traceability, and impact analysis, with human review and approval at critical control points.
- Define reusable SDD templates, prompt and context standards, repository conventions, quality gates, evaluation criteria, and responsible AI controls for enterprise adoption.
- Measure SDD outcomes using baselines and agreed targets for engineering cycle time, specification-to-code traceability, automated test coverage, escaped defects, rework, deployment frequency, and productivity improvement.
- Ensure AI-generated artifacts meet enterprise standards for security, privacy, intellectual property, explainability, maintainability, and auditability.
Engineering Excellence And Hands-On Technical Leadership
- Provide credible, hands-on technical leadership through design reviews, code and API reviews, proof-of-concept direction, critical problem solving, performance analysis, and production diagnostics.
- Guide teams on software design principles, domain-driven design, secure coding, automated testing, DevSecOps, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, reliability engineering, and cloud cost optimization.
- Define engineering scorecards and quality gates covering code health, architecture compliance, security vulnerabilities, reliability, performance, recoverability, maintainability, and operational readiness.
- Champion platform engineering, reusable services, developer experience, automated environments, and self-service capabilities that reduce implementation friction at scale.
Large-Scale Implementation Leadership
- Lead multiple engineering teams and technical workstreams across product, architecture, software engineering, data, quality engineering, cloud, security, operations, and partner organizations.
- Create an integrated technical implementation plan that connects architecture runway, dependency sequencing, environment readiness, test strategy, migration, cutover, and operational acceptance.
- Act as the senior technical decision-maker for complex implementation risks, cross-team conflicts, architecture exceptions, integration failures, and production-readiness gaps.
- Provide transparent executive-level reporting on architecture health, implementation progress, critical dependencies, risk exposure, quality, readiness, and realized business outcomes.
- Build governance that is lightweight but effective, emphasizing decision velocity, measurable technical outcomes, and removal of systemic blockers rather than delivery administration.
Pharmacy Domain And Stakeholder Partnership
- Apply working knowledge of the prescription lifecycle, PBM operations, payer and pharmacy interactions, clinical and utilization management, drug data, pricing, formulary, claims, and applicable industry transactions and regulations.
- Partner with pharmacy business leaders, product managers, enterprise architects, security, operations, compliance, and client teams to shape solutions that are technically sound and operationally adoptable.
- Convert domain policies, rules, and exceptions into explicit specifications, testable requirements, decision services, and traceable implementation controls.
- Challenge assumptions using outside-in engineering and pharmacy-platform practices while tailoring recommendations to CarelonRx business priorities and enterprise constraints.
People And Capability Leadership
- Build, lead, and mentor engineering managers, solution architects, principal engineers, technical leads, developers, quality engineers, and platform specialists across distributed teams.
- Establish clear technical accountabilities, architecture ownership, engineering career paths, succession plans, and communities of practice for pharmacy engineering and AI SDD.
- Create a culture of engineering rigor, transparent decision-making, experimentation, learning, inclusion, and accountability for outcomes.
- Assess capability gaps and execute hiring, upskilling, partner augmentation, and workforce plans required for large-scale implementation.
Delivery Governance As A Supporting Responsibility
- Partner with product and program leadership on planning, investment sequencing, release readiness, dependency management, and risk escalation.
- Use delivery metrics only as supporting indicators. Primary accountability remains architecture quality, end-to-end implementation integrity, engineering excellence, and business capability outcomes.
- Ensure commitments are realistic, technically grounded, and supported by clear specifications, measurable acceptance criteria, and production-readiness evidence.
QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualification is preferred.
- Strong foundation in software engineering, enterprise solution architecture, systems integration, cloud engineering, data architecture, cybersecurity, and operational resilience.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate architecture and implementation choices to business executives, product leaders, engineers, risk partners, and external vendors.
- Ability to lead through ambiguity, make evidence-based trade-offs, and connect pharmacy business outcomes to technical architecture and implementation decisions.
- Working knowledge of Agile, product operating models, DevSecOps, secure SDLC, and modern engineering governance.
EXPERIENCE
- 15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, solution architecture, enterprise platforms, and technology implementation, including 5+ years leading engineering managers, architects, or large technical teams.
- Proven leadership of large-scale, multi-year enterprise implementations involving multiple applications, complex integrations, data migration, cloud platforms, distributed teams, and production cutover.
- Relevant healthcare, pharmacy, or PBM experience, with demonstrable understanding of end-to-end pharmacy capabilities and their technology implications.
- Demonstrated experience defining target architecture and taking complex platforms from architecture through implementation, production readiness, stabilization, and measurable adoption.
- Experience applying AI-assisted engineering, Spec-Driven Development, agentic workflows, or comparable automation across the SDLC with appropriate human oversight and governance.
- Experience managing strategic vendors and globally distributed teams while retaining internal ownership of architecture, engineering quality, and implementation outcomes.
