Job Description: Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator

Department: Environmental Health & Safety

Salary Range: $53,000-$79,700

Reports to: EHS Manager

Position Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies. This role partners with plant leadership and employees to promote a culture of safety, reduce workplace risks, and support continuous improvement initiatives within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration and continuous improvement of EHS programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and workplace hazard assessments to identify risks and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions, determine root causes, and track corrective actions through completion.
  • Maintain accurate EHS documentation, including training records, OSHA logs, incident reports, and regulatory compliance records.
  • Support environmental compliance activities and assist with required reporting and recordkeeping.
  • Facilitate and coordinate employee safety training programs, orientations, and ongoing awareness initiatives.
  • Monitor safety performance metrics and prepare reports and presentations for management review.
  • Partner with supervisors and employees to promote safe work practices and proactively address safety concerns.
  • Assist in emergency preparedness and response activities, including drills and incident response coordination.
  • Serve as a resource for employees regarding EHS policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing workplace injuries and improving overall safety performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety, manufacturing operations, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards, regulations, and safety compliance requirements.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to facilitate training and effectively present information to employees at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Certifications & Special Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to successfully obtain and maintain certifications in:
    • CPR
    • First Aid
    • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
    • Bloodborne Pathogens Training
  • Ability to respond appropriately to workplace medical emergencies and incidents.
  • Ability to walk production areas regularly, conduct inspections, and work in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive or manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance regulations and reporting.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 management systems.
  • OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred.

Education Required & Preferred:

University Degree

Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

Experience Required & Preferred:

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Familiar with Microsoft Access

Minimum of two years’ experience in Health and Safety

Sound knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental laws

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.  Candidate has the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Candidate has the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability:

Candidate has the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Must be computer literate and familiar with appropriate software programs.  Candidate has the ability to create visual aids for communication purposes.
