Job Description

Purpose of the role

To support the Risk Function in delivering it’s objective of safeguarding the bank's financial and operational stability by proactively identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks across various business units and activities.

Accountabilities

  • Development of strategic direction for risk, including the implementation of up-to-date methodologies and processes.
  • Management of the risk department, including oversight of risk colleagues and their performance, implementation of risk priorities and objectives, oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Relationship management of risk stakeholders, including identifying relevant stakeholders, and maintenance of the quality of external third-party services.
  • Adherence to the Risk policy, standards and frameworks, and maintaining a robust control environment.

  • OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and/ or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

Join us as an Economic Crime Risk Manager, where you will support the development, maintenance and enhancement of desktop procedures that underpin economic crime risk management and controls across the Business Banking division. Working within an established risk framework, you will help ensure procedural documentation remains accurate, up to date and aligned with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry best practice.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the business, you will help promote consistency in processes, strengthen the control environment, and support the effective management of economic crime risk. Opportunities to contribute to regulatory change initiatives and horizon scanning activities will also arise as part of the role.

To be successful as an Economic Crime Risk Manager, you must have the following:

  • Experience within a first-line Economic Crime role, with a strong understanding of identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial crime risks across business activities and products.

  • Proven experience within Financial Services, with a good understanding of Business Banking products, customer types, and associated risk considerations.

  • Knowledge of UK financial crime legislation, regulatory requirements and industry best practice relating to Economic Crime risk management.

  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail when assessing risks and reviewing customer onboarding and due diligence activities.

  • Experience producing high-quality written documentation, including drafting, updating, and maintaining desktop procedures, guidance, and operating standards.

  • Understanding of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations and industry guidance, including JMLSG requirements and best practice.

  • Experience supporting the implementation and enhancement of risk and control frameworks across the customer lifecycle.

Other highly valued skills include:

  • Recognised financial crime qualification, such as ICA AML Diploma, ACAMS or equivalent.

  • Experience supporting horizon scanning activities and assessing the impact of regulatory or industry developments, with the ability to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders

  • Experience working with regulatory change, policy implementation, or control testing activities.

  • Knowledge of Business Banking customer journeys and associated economic crime risks.

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role can be based in our London or Northampton Offices.
