Director - IU Health Incubator at IU LAB Pre-Accelerator

gener8tor fosters innovation ecosystems through its accelerator programs, venture capital funds, and skills-based workforce initiatives. With a strong track record of supporting high-growth companies, gener8tor has expanded across the U.S. and internationally, building partnerships with governments, corporations, universities and economic development organizations to drive entrepreneurship and economic impact. gener8tor operates accelerators across 50 cities, 32 states and 9 countries, working with more than 300 startups per year. To date, gener8tor has worked with more than 2,200 startups that have cumulatively gone on to raise more than $3B in financing and employ more than 15,600 people. 

The Director will lead the IU Health Incubator at IU LAB Pre-Accelerator, a program powered by gener8tor. The Director is responsible for recruiting and selecting companies, executing programming, startup coaching and network building for two accelerator programs per year of five companies each. Each program is seven weeks long. When not in program, the Director will continue to support alumni, recruit and hold office hours with startups, especially those emanating from IU’s research and commercialization efforts. A throughline of the role is being an active member in the Indiana startup community to build relationships with stakeholders at IU, startups, mentors and investors.

Success for the Director looks like recruiting high-quality cohorts, taking ownership over established KPIs, running point on coaching founders and alumni to successful outcomes, and interacting with the community, program stakeholders, mentors and investors to garner support and recognition for the program. The Director will successfully collaborate with the Program Manager (PM) daily to ensure all program and partner logistics are met. This individual will regularly report out program metrics to gener8tor leadership and the IU LAB team while ensuring stakeholder satisfaction with the partnership’s overall strategy and outcomes. 

Responsibilities

• Startup Sourcing, Network Management and Network Expansion:
  • Contact and recruit relevant life science startups to apply to the program.
  • Engage with new and existing mentors and investors to catalyze an ecosystem of relevant resources.
• Program Execution and Founder Support:
  • Strategize, plan and execute logistics and operations for two accelerator programs per year in conjunction with the Program Manager.
  • Evaluate startups, conduct supplementary diligence and provide guidance on cohort selection in collaboration with our IU Lab partners and gener8tor leadership.
  • Serve as the lead startup mentor for participating startups and alumni to support progress in growth, network building, fundraising success, and team expansion.
  • Be the #1 cheerleader for the startups we work with.
• Measuring and Reporting Metrics:
  • Collaborate with program participants and the Program Manager to collect and track company and market performance data.
  • Analyze and report data and metrics to gener8tor leadership and our IU Lab partners.
• Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across Indiana’s and IU’s life science ecosystem.
  • Attend and prepare for regular meetings with our IU Lab partners.
  • Provide regular reporting on startup and program success that aligns with gBETA and IU Lab goals.
• Community Involvement:
  • Support the growth of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Indiana.
  • Represent gener8tor and IU Lab partners publicly by attending other community events.
• gener8tor Support:
  • Collaborate with other members of the gener8tor team across various initiatives that support the growth and competitiveness of the company and its programs overall.
  • Collaborate with gener8tor leadership to develop new strategies, assess program strengths, improve program processes and ensure the program follows best practices as outlined by gener8tor.

Requirements

• Residence in the Indianapolis, IN area.
• Foundational understanding of life science startups and/or experience as a founder, employee in a venture-backed company. Understanding of technology commercialization preferred. 
• Leadership/management experience is recommended.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and a self-starter. 
• Natural willingness and curiosity to intentionally dive deeper into the life sciences, IU and Indiana startup ecosystems, even if already familiar.
• Collaborative, team-based mindset. You will be working closely with the IU LAB team as well as the gener8tor leadership team.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly independent environment and juggle multiple ongoing projects, responsibilities and external relationships.
• Flexibility to travel up to 15%, work some nights and weekends to meet deadlines and KPIs and attend ecosystem events.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
