We have an exciting opportunity to join ET&S Structures and Installations team in Digital Design and Industrialisation as a Capability Lead.

As a Capability Lead you will be accountable for leading a team of 10 to 20 engineers in 4 DD&I skill sets: Product Definition, Digital Design Automation, Additive Design, and Composite Design. You will be working primarily on Civil Aerospace, R&T, and UK Defence Programmes. It is an excellent opportunity to add to your people and programme leadership skills and understand how to develop the capability of a team. This will also provide an opportunity to nurture and grow the specific areas of digital design automation, product definition, additive, and composite design capability. You will have an opportunity to shape the capability delivering Digital Transformation across the business and gain an appreciation of Component Design Systems, GD&T, MBD, MBE, Project Nene, Product Lines, and the Digital Thread.

 

What you will be doing:

Responsibilities
• To provide technical leadership to the Engineering resource group and ensure compliance to process throughout the life cycle activity.
• To play an active role in load/capacity planning for the Digital Design and Industrialisation and work with the wider function to ensure suitable and capable people are available to complete programme deliverables. This includes engagement with third parties such as Managed Service Providers in line with agreed Do/Buy strategies.
• To allocate staff to agreed work packages and lead the delivery and approval of technical activities within their functional accountability.
• To lead and drive efficiency through process review, teamwork and implementing continuous improvement and operational best practice within the field of work.
• To lead the digital transformation and work with Senior Specialists to see you team deliver capability development work and programme deliverables supporting Product Definition, Digital Design Automation, Additive, and Composite Design.

Key Accountabilities

  • To provide technical leadership to the Engineering resource group and ensure compliance to process throughout the life cycle activity
  • To create and maintain resource plans to meet the overall delivery commitments
  • To ensure that sufficient resource is available, through subcontract and recruitment (whilst adhering to Company manpower policy) to meet current and future business’ needs and budgets.
  • To own the appropriate section of the business strategy/programme and ensure that the capabilities and resources necessary to deliver the strategy have been identified.
  • To ensure effective performance management in particular ensure that employees have relevant & appropriate objectives through the Business Plan Deployment Process
  • To lead and develop the members of their team within and beyond their respective disciplines, including individual and professional development, training, performance and reward management, HSE and security
  • To ensure staff are suitably qualified and experienced and that the required skills are sustainable for the future through: multi-skilling, staff rotation, and the competency framework tools and professional networks and standards
  • To contribute to current and future business strategy/programme requirements and support the budget and load and capacity process
  • To be the focal point for communication within and on behalf of the Resource Group
  • To lead and manage the functional interfaces and to ensure that appropriate reviews takes place throughout the engineering lifecycle processes involving appropriate experienced specialists and leaders.
  • To ensure the highest professional standards are met through use of agreed Corporate methodology and processes and provide checks and balances to ensure that regulatory and business requirements are satisfied.
  • To ensure effective knowledge management through the use of knowledge capture, lessons learnt, and best practice guides for the resource group, and encourage knowledge sharing within the group and beyond
  • To lead and drive efficiency through process review, teamwork and implementing continuous improvement and operational best practice within the field of work.
  • Where appropriate, to own the relationship between engineering and the supply chain and ensure it is effectively managed and integrated
  • To apply Health, Safety and the Environment policy including a commitment to continuous improvement.

Basic and preferred qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent
  • Demonstrates sound engineering judgement and knowledge of the Sector Customers and Programmes
  • Demonstrates effective leadership & engineering skills
  • Capable of building high performing teams and effecting a positive shift in attitudes and behaviours
  • Understanding of Company Quality policies and processes deployed within the resource group
  • Experienced in applying process improvement techniques and driving business improvements
