Overview:
The Virginia Department of General Services (DGS) is seeking an experienced Database Administration 4 professional to administer, maintain, and support the security and integrity of the agency's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) database environment.
The position will focus on Oracle database administration, performance, security, backup and recovery, database migration, and OCI support.
The selected candidate must be within driving distance of Richmond, VA. The role will be primarily remote after the initial equipment pickup and orientation, with occasional onsite visits as required.

Job Description:
The Database Administration 4 professional will administer and maintain Oracle ERP databases while ensuring database security, availability, performance, and integrity.
The role will implement database models and designs, support data access and table maintenance, troubleshoot performance and capacity issues, manage replication and distributed data, and support migration of Oracle databases to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
The position will work under general supervision and use extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish database administration goals.
Responsibilities:
- Administer, maintain, and support Oracle ERP databases.
- Ensure database security, integrity, availability, and performance.
- Support Oracle 19c and Oracle 26ai database environments.
- Support Oracle databases hosted in OCI and on-premises environments.
- Perform and support Oracle database migrations to OCI.
- Support Oracle RAC and ASM environments on Linux.
- Manage and troubleshoot Data Guard Physical Standby environments.
- Perform RMAN backup and recovery operations.
- Use Oracle Data Pump export and import utilities.
- Support Oracle Enterprise Manager and database monitoring activities.
- Perform database performance tuning and capacity management.
- Support database security, patching, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Troubleshoot replication and distributed database issues.
- Develop and maintain database documentation, procedures, and technical standards.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues and provide timely resolutions.
- Communicate technical information clearly with technical teams, management, and stakeholders.
- Support Linux/Unix database administration activities as needed.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ years of Oracle database administration experience, including Oracle 19c and Oracle 26ai.
- 2+ years of experience supporting Oracle databases in OCI and on-premises environments.
- 2+ years of experience migrating Oracle databases to OCI.
- 3+ years of experience with Oracle RAC and ASM on Linux.
- 3+ years of experience with Data Guard Physical Standby.
- 10+ years of experience with RMAN backup and recovery.
- 5+ years of experience with Data Pump, Oracle Enterprise Manager, performance tuning, security, patching, and documentation.
- 10+ years of strong database troubleshooting experience.
- 10+ years of strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of experience supporting Linux or Unix system administration.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience migrating Commonwealth of Virginia (COV) agency Oracle databases to OCI.
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2019 or newer.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise database environments.
