Towne's Nexity platform combines Parking Access and Revenue Control Systems (PARCS), guidance systems, mobile, payments, and analytics into a single, integrated parking and mobility experience. The Design Engineer, Parking Technology Solutions is the technical bridge between what Nexity's products can do and what a specific client site needs, allowing for, and requires.
This role translates sales opportunities and client requirements into buildable, code-compliant, site-specific technology designs — spanning conceptual layout, detailed drawing packs, and material/scope breakdowns — that can be handed cleanly to quoting, procurement, and installation/contractor teams. The Design Engineer works closely with Sales throughout the pursuit and design phase, and with Operations and contractors through to project handover, while maintaining the accuracy, consistency, and quality of Towne's design documentation nationwide.

Compensation: Towne is committed to offering competitive, fair, and commensurate compensation. Actual compensation will be based on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, education or training, and location.

Benefits: Employees are eligible to enroll in medical, dental, and vision insurance, accident insurance, critical illness insurance, hospital indemnity insurance, and telemedicine benefits. Employees are provided company-paid basic life and AD&D insurance as well as short-term and long-term disability. Employees are also able to enroll in the company’s 401k retirement savings plan.

Paid Time Off: Employees accrue 0.0654 hours of PTO per hour worked up to a maximum of 136 hours per calendar year. Employees receive 6 paid holidays throughout the calendar year and employees accrue up to a maximum of 4 paid floating holidays per calendar year.

Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to a specific plan or program.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Design & Technical Feasibility

  • Develop a working understanding of Nexity's PARCS, guidance, and related hardware/software products, and how each is deployed in real site conditions.
  • Design site-specific technology solutions that reconcile three constraints: the physical/technical site conditions, local city and municipal codes and policy, and the capability of Towne's PARCS and guidance product lines.
  • Produce 2D layout drawings and 3D models (lane layouts, equipment placement, sightlines, clearances, cable/conduit routing, guidance sensor coverage) with a high standard of dimensional and technical accuracy.
  • Conduct turn-radius analysis, clearance checks, and similar supporting technical studies where a design depends on them.
  • Identify where a proposed solution conflicts with civil/structural constraints, ADA/accessibility requirements, fire/life-safety code, or local ordinance, and work with the client and internal stakeholders to resolve it before design sign-off.
  • Produce basic on-site network diagrams for each design, showing how field devices (LPR cameras, security cameras, gates/barriers, payment kiosks, etc.) are connected on the local site LAN — typically 4–15 devices — using consistent IP addressing/naming conventions and confirming there are no address conflicts, before that LAN connects out to the server via LTE.

Sales, Client & Contractor Engagement

  • Partner with the Sales team throughout the pursuit process to shape solutions that address the client's stated pain points and business objectives, not just a generic product fit.
  • Assist the quoting team with clear, itemized solution breakdowns (equipment, materials, install scope) that support accurate estimating.
  • Meet directly with clients and their representatives to run discovery, walk through proposed drawings, answer technical questions, and manage revisions to acceptance.
  • Present accepted designs to installation contractors, confirming mutual understanding of scope, methodology, and sequencing before work begins.
  • Act as the technical point of reference for a design once it moves into project delivery, fielding site-condition questions from Operations and contractors.

Standards, Documentation & Records

  • Maintain a complete, well-organized design record for every project — from initial discovery and site data through to final client-accepted drawings — using company file management and naming conventions.
  • Develop and maintain standardized drawing pack templates for use across the design team nationwide.
  • Develop and maintain standardized, nationwide material/BOM requirements for common solution types, keeping them current as products evolve.
  • Support other adjacent design deliverables as needed — e.g. safety management plans, traffic/turn-radius studies, signage and wayfinding drawings — even where they sit outside the core PARCS/guidance scope.
  • Feed lessons learned and recurring site issues back into template and standard updates, so the design library improves over time rather than being redone project to project.

Candidate Requirements

Education

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (drafting/CAD, civil, mechanical, electrical, or construction-related engineering) — or equivalent hands-on experience in lieu of a degree.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience producing technical/engineering drawings for physical installations — parking, security/access control, low-voltage systems, civil/site works, or a closely related technical design field — with demonstrated ability to work independently on client-facing design decisions rather than under close supervision.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of civil engineering standards and site-drawing conventions (grading, clearances, accessibility/ADA, striping, signage) sufficient to sanity-check a design against real-world site constraints.
  • Experience working directly with clients and/or contractors on technical drawings — not purely back-office drafting — is strongly preferred, given the client- and contractor-facing nature of this role.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to read and reconcile competing inputs — client wants, sales commitments, municipal code, and product capability — into one coherent, buildable design.
  • Strong client-facing communication: able to present and defend a design to a client or contractor, take feedback, and revise without losing technical integrity.
  • Comfortable presenting to and coordinating with contractors on-site, including fielding methodology questions in real time.
  • Well organized and self-directed; able to manage a portfolio of concurrent designs at different stages (discovery, design, review, accepted, in-delivery) without designs slipping through the cracks.
  • Collaborative approach to working across time zones with the Australia-based senior design engineer and a distributed sales/operations team.
  • Proficiency in a major CAD suite is required — AutoCAD is the primary standard; working knowledge of Civil 3D, Revit, or MicroStation is an advantage. A relevant vendor certification (e.g. Autodesk Certified Professional/User) is preferred, though strong demonstrated proficiency will be considered in its place.
  • Comfortable producing and navigating 3D models alongside 2D drawings (SketchUp, Revit, or similar) for client-facing walkthroughs and clash/clearance checks.
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu (or equivalent) for markup, redline, and drawing review workflows with clients and contractors.
  • Proven, disciplined file and revision management across a live project load — clear naming conventions, version control, and retrievable project archives.
  • Working knowledge of local network fundamentals (IP addressing and subnetting, static IP assignment, avoiding address conflicts, basic switch/PoE topology) sufficient to design and diagram the on-site LAN connecting field devices — LPR cameras, security cameras, gates/barriers, payment kiosks, and similar — which in turn communicates out to the server via the LTE connection. This is a self-contained site network (typically 4–15 devices), not integration with the client's corporate IT network. Depth here can vary — candidates may be stronger on the CAD/civil side or the network/IT side, provided they have working competency across both.
  • General comfort with business/reporting software (Microsoft Office/365, and ideally CRM or quoting-adjacent tools such as Salesforce) for maintaining records and supporting the quoting process.
