About the Role

WoodMac Supply Chain Consulting is growing fast, and our biggest opportunity is adding to the leadership capacity in delivering the work we are winning. This Director role exists to lead that delivery. You will own the quality and execution of multiple concurrent client engagements, run the project management discipline that keeps them on track, and develop the consultants who staff them. This is an execution and expertise track, not a sales seat: your job is to make our delivery the reason clients trust and continue working with us.

Under your leadership our project teams will turn our industry data and experience into insights clients act on. You will set the bar for analytical rigor and client-ready output, manage risk and escalations before they reach the client, and serve as the link between your delivery teams and management. Strong delivery naturally surfaces expansion opportunities, and you will flag and qualify those within this leadership role.

A growing share of our work supports large client IT and digital programs to include ERP, GIS, customer information systems, DERMS and network modernization. On these engagements we co-own the sourcing, vendor selection, contract structuring and vendor governance rather than the technical implementation, and we often carry the same team into a standing vendor management or PMO role once the program is underway. A Director with experience in that environment will have the opportunity to lead this portfolio as it grows.

This Director role is measured on delivery. Individual metrics center on engagement quality and client satisfaction, on-time and on-budget delivery, project margin, and team development/retention. The candidate will have a commercial mindset but will not carry a direct sales target. The primary commercial contribution here means delivering projects per the commercial contract.  A secondary commercial contribution is identifying and qualifying expansion opportunities on active accounts, supporting sales discussions led by the VP team, and providing subject-matter expertise for proposals.

Main Responsibilities

  • As an engagement lead, candidate will be accountable for the quality of all project solutions delivered to our energy clients under their management, from analytics to presentations
  • Manage multiple client relationships by effectively interfacing at all levels from the C-Suite to Supply Chain, Project Management, Engineering and Business Development teams
  • Collaborate with both colleagues and clients on the development of project solutions needed to meet clients’ objectives or otherwise facilitate the energy transition
  • Oversee and manage more junior members of the Supply Chain Consulting team and drive successful project execution
  • Develop and maintain work plans to accomplish project scopes while setting clear objectives and deliverables; perform QA/QC of analyses and deliverables
  • Lead engagements supporting client IT and digital programs, including sourcing and vendor selection for platform implementations, negotiation of system integrator and software agreements, and standing vendor management or PMO support once a program is live
  • Support management and their efforts to run and administer the business with activities such as planning, recruiting, training, performance development, etc.
  • Regularly update internal management on project progress, including revenue recognition and profitability metrics
  • Surface and qualify expansion opportunities on assigned accounts, then collaborate with the VP team to pursue; support proposal development by providing subject-matter expertise

About You

  • 12+ years in a Consulting, Supply Chain, Operations, or Engineering function; experience within the Power & Renewables and/or Oil & Gas sectors is preferred
  • Proven track record of project management and project execution; PMP certification is desirable, but not required
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving, time management and managerial skills; strong project risk and escalation management, able to catch and resolve issues before they reach the client
  • Effective communication (oral and written); ability to write persuasive documents and construct high-impact storylines strong interpersonal skills
  • Passionate about active coaching and committed to improving productivity and opportunities for junior staff; demonstrated ability to lead a dynamic, cohesive team and to work effectively in a team environment
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to and positively influencing our team culture through mentorship, teamwork, empowerment, etc.
  • Strong interest in the energy sector and working with our clients to solve energy supply chain issues
  • Comfortable owning engagement-level commercial outcomes including project margin and realization
  • Experience supporting large IT or digital programs is a strong plus, from either the owner or the advisor side, for example ERP, GIS, customer information systems, DERMS or network modernization
  • Familiarity with IT category sourcing, system integrator and software vendor selection, licensing and subscription models, and vendor performance governance; this is a procurement and delivery leadership role, not a systems integration seat

Expectations

This section is not a comprehensive list of everything that is expected from the ideal candidate but rather a spotlight on the skills and behaviors that are most critical to the role:

  • Growth Mindset – believe that new abilities can be developed through practice, embrace feedback, motivate others, solve problems and persist
  • Customer Collaboration – the desire to understand who our customers are, to engage effectively, build impactful relationships, and to serve all while keeping them at the heart of our decision making
  • Team Player – our team believes in the mindset of staying “hungry and humble” – being a motivated, self-starter that is willing to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done. The ideal candidate will be passionate about solving client challenges, and supporting professional growth of junior colleagues
  • Planning and Prioritizing – a proven ability to plan, prioritize, monitor and manage concurrent projects; managing multiple clients and/or projects is expected for this role
  • Commitment to Action – Make timely, evidence-based decisions and values-based judgements in line with our organizational goals and priorities and act boldly and take prompt action to execute decisions in the face of ambiguity.
  • Change Agility – Take a pragmatic approach to uncertainty and ensure responsiveness in the face of change and setbacks; look for opportunities in change and disruption

Other

  • The ideal candidate will work in close proximity of one of our offices in which our Supply Chain Consulting group has a presence in (i.e. Calgary, Houston, Boston, or New York) and will be a hybrid role - expected in the office 2-3 days per week when not onsite with clients
  • Willingness and ability to travel 60- 80% of the time
  • The nature of this role precludes it from consideration for part-time or flexible working arrangements
  • Bachelor's degree required, post-graduate degree in relevant subject area is generally preferred
  • This position does not provide visa sponsorship
