Sobre este puesto de Data Engineer en Rune Technologies
About Rune
Rune Technologies builds mission-critical software for military logistics and sustainment. Our flagship product is TyrOS, an AI-enabled logistics command and control platform that gives commanders a single, real-time operating picture of their sustainment fight, from inventory and distribution to medical and operational planning, even in degraded and contested environments.
We're not a traditional defense contractor. We're a small, fast-moving team that combines deep operational experience in and with the DoD with the software discipline of the best product companies, and we apply that combination to a customer set that desperately needs it. We stay close to our users by embedding directly with military units during exercises and rotations, and we ship constantly based on what we learn.
The U.S. military and its allies face a real logistics modernization problem. We're building the software to solve it.
About the Role
At Rune Technologies, we are building the logistics technology backbone that the U.S. and allied militaries need to operate and sustain forces in complex environments. As a Data Engineer at Rune, you will work at the intersection of data engineering, data analysis, and practical development to make sure every TyrOS deployment has the data it needs to support real-world logistics operations.
You’ll own the picture of what data each TyrOS instance needs, what is currently loaded, where data comes from, and where the gaps are. You’ll work closely with Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) and Mission Managers, including in forward-deployed environments, to understand customer requirements and turn them into concrete data needs. This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable working with messy real-world data, operating independently with incomplete inputs, and creating the systems and processes needed to keep many deployments organized.
What You’ll Do
• Own the map of what data each TyrOS deployment needs, what is currently loaded, and what data shortfalls remain.
• Assemble, clean, join, transform, and quality-control real-world datasets to support TyrOS deployments.
• Track data sources, requirements, loaded status, and gaps across multiple deployments and maintain a trusted, current source of truth.
• Work closely with FDEs and Mission Managers to understand customer requirements and translate them into concrete data needs.
• Identify discrepancies and shortfalls in data, investigate root causes, and drive issues toward resolution.
• Build repeatable standards and processes for data assembly, tracking, and quality control across new deployments.
• Use Python and SQL to perform hands-on data analysis, processing, and automation of recurring data work.
• Work independently through ambiguous or incomplete inputs, building organizational systems to manage competing data needs.
• Identify opportunities to automate recurring data work and contribute to broader data engineering and development efforts.
• Travel approximately 25% and work forward-deployed at customer and military sites, including travel to the West Coast and Hawaii.
Qualifications
· 2–4 years of experience in data analysis, data engineering, quantitative research, or analytics-heavy work.
· Python is a must-have, with demonstrated experience working directly with real-world data.
· Strong SQL skills and experience with a scripting or data-processing toolset.
· Experience assembling, cleaning, joining, transforming, and quality-controlling tabular data.
· Strong organizational capacity and ownership across multiple deployments and changing data needs.
· Clear written communication and the ability to document data status, shortfalls, and requirements.
· Ability to work independently with ambiguous or incomplete inputs.
· Willingness to travel approximately 25% and work forward-deployed at customer and military sites.
· Security clearance or ability to obtain one; exact clearance level and sponsorship process to be confirmed.
Desired Qualifications
· Palantir Foundry or comparable data-platform experience, such as Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or AWS/Azure data stacks.
· Experience with data pipelines / ETL, external data integrations, and reference-data management.
· Experience with defense, government, regulated, or field data, including military or operational datasets.
· Go experience.
· Database or DBA experience.
· Geospatial or maps exposure; direct maps experience is not required, but trainability is valuable.
· Strong engineering instincts in addition to data skills, with the ability to grow into broader data engineering or development responsibilities.
