It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

Located at NC Correctional Institution for Women, this facility holds offenders from minimum, medium, and close custody levels. This position will have contact with offenders and is located inside the facility.

• Provide programs for the rehabilitation of offenders in the prison system.
• Accountable for the development, implementation, and maintenance of total programs activities for one or more major and broad programs for offenders at a large facility or institution, including correctional programs (work release, incentive wage, study release, home leave, adult basic education, volunteer programs, religion, and recreation); and supportive counseling
• Considerable contact with community agencies to enrich programs, establish new programs, and to conduct home leave and work release investigations.
• Monitor effectiveness of community volunteer workers assigned to programs activities and may supervise subordinate staff.
• Responsible for coordinating programs activities with custody staff

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $39,244.00 - $68,679.00

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

• Documented knowledge of internal and/or external services available to offenders.

• Documented 12 months (1 year) of correctional program experience.

• Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

About The Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
