Summary
The Corporate Accounts Underwriting Consultant will join the New Business Team within Manulife Group Benefits. This role provides front-line exposure and opportunities to collaborate with experienced underwriting professionals while mentoring junior colleagues. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for managing underwriting risk to support profitable, long-term financial results.
Position Responsibilities
- Establish rates and retentions for new and existing Group Benefits plans while ensuring appropriate target profitability levels are achieved.
- Provide internal account management and respond proactively to client requests related to pricing and benefit changes.
- Prepare quotation submissions, including responses to questionnaires, and customize value-added responses using Loopio.
- Onboard new clients by developing complex client structures and applications and coordinating with internal partners on administrative and plan design requirements.
- Negotiate contracts, including financial arrangements, benefit plan provisions, and service and performance standard agreements.
- Improve operating performance to support long-term financial success.
- Assess and demonstrate an understanding of the liabilities associated with various Group Benefits arrangements.
Required Qualifications
- Previous underwriting experience within Group Benefits; a specific number of years is not indicated.
- Strong knowledge of the Group Insurance market, products, and services.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, including data manipulation and pivot tables, as well as proficiency in Word.
- Post-secondary education with strong business, mathematics, and analytical aptitude.
- Professional risk management expertise.
- Proven ability to partner effectively with and support sales teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual proficiency in French and English.
- CEBS or GBA certification.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Strategic and creative thinking with a focus on developing solutions for unique customer needs.
- Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and influencing skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities within tight timelines.
- Sound decision-making skills that balance risk management, financial discipline, and customer needs.

Salary range is expected to be between
$71,475.00 CAD - $119,125.00 CADEmployees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
