The role reports to the Senior Manager, Core Finance and leads work across business and technology centre locations and cross-functional teams.

Let me tell you about the role:

The Core Finance Lead owns the accurate, timely and controlled delivery of an assigned portfolio of Core Finance activities. The role brings together management information and performance analysis, independent validation of valuations used in financial reporting, new activity support, project delivery and continuous improvement into a scalable, clearly governed service model. The role operates across Finance, commercial and service-delivery interfaces while maintaining clear accountability boundaries. The role is accountable for understanding external management accounting data requirements and ensuring valuations used for external management accounting are appropriate, supported and clearly explained.

What you will deliver

  • Lead the production, validation and explanation of high-quality management information and performance analysis, ensuring material movements, data issues and valuation differences are understood and escalated.
  • Oversee independent valuation review for the assigned portfolio, including input data, curves, models, methodologies and adjustments, and ensure valuations used for external management accounting are appropriate, supported and aligned with defined data requirements.
  • Lead Core Finance support for new commercial activity from assessment through implementation, coordinating Finance input, delivery plans, functional assurance, readiness activities and handover into sustainable business-as-usual processes.
  • Lead cross-functional improvement and transformation initiatives, applying structured project delivery, process redesign and change management to simplify, standardise, automate or stop work.
  • Set priorities across teams and locations, review complex outputs, coach colleagues and establish clear accountabilities, service expectations, documentation and issue-resolution procedures routes for assigned processes.
  • Collaborate with Finance, commercial, technology and service-delivery partners to resolve complex data, valuation and process issues, ensuring the right expertise is engaged and accountabilities are clearly aligned across the end-to-end process.

Job Functional Knowledge: Deep practical knowledge of financial analysis, management information, valuation processes, data controls, new activity delivery and business transformation in a complex trading or supply environment. Strong understanding of valuation inputs, curves, models, methodologies, data lineage and control evidence, together with the external management accounting data requirements affected by valuation outputs. Working knowledge of project delivery, process design, change management, automation and continuous improvement. The role applies this knowledge to connect Finance, commercial, risk, control and service-delivery interfaces and support high-quality outcomes across the assigned portfolio.

Business Expertise: Strong understanding of ST&S or a comparable commodity trading and supply business, including how transactions, market data, valuation methods, systems and operational events affect management information and external management accounting. Brings clarity across Finance, commercial, risk, control, technology and service-delivery accountabilities, engaging the appropriate expertise to support effective decisions and sustainable delivery.

Leadership: Provides day-to-day leadership for a Core Finance team or portfolio of work. Sets clear outcomes, allocates priorities, assures complex outputs and develops capability through coaching, cross-training and knowledge sharing. Leads project and agile delivery teams across organisational and geographic boundaries and creates alignment through operating-model, process and technology change.

Problem Solving : Uses sound judgement to resolve complex valuation, data, reporting, process and delivery issues, often under tight deadlines and with incomplete information. Distinguishes root causes from symptoms, evaluates commercial and reporting impacts, challenges assumptions and develops practical solutions. Engages the appropriate Finance, risk, control or functional partners to ensure timely decisions, clear ownership and well-supported outcomes.

Nature and Area of Impact: Accountable for the quality, timeliness and control of assigned Core Finance products, services and change delivery. The role affects the reliability of management information, the appropriateness of valuations used for external management accounting, the readiness of new commercial activity and the effectiveness of improvements in execution. It also influences efficiency, standardisation, scalability and capability across ST&S Finance & Risk.

Interpersonal skills: Builds trusted relationships across Finance, commercial, technology and service-delivery teams.
