The Controller is responsible for leading CyberOne’s accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company’s financial information. This role oversees the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance while serving as a key business partner to the CFO and other department leaders.

Leading a team of two accounting professionals, the Controller provides oversight of day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, cash management, and related accounting functions. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical accounting expertise, sound judgment, operational discipline, and the ability to translate financial information into meaningful business insights.

Location & Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid position based out of CyberOne’s Plano, Texas office. Candidates must currently reside in the Dallas–Fort Worth area and be able to commute to the Plano office in accordance with CyberOne’s hybrid work schedule. This position is not eligible for fully remote work or relocation; only candidates currently residing in the DFW area will be considered.

Essential Functions

Accounting & Financial Close

• Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

Oversee and, when appropriate, prepare and record month-end journal entries, including revenue recognition, accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, payroll-related entries, and other required adjustments.

• Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for cybersecurity product resale and Professional Services revenue.

• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation prepared by the accounting team to ensure accuracy, completeness, and appropriate support.

• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure accounting transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP and company policies.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Prepare, review, and deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reporting.

• Analyze financial results, including revenue, gross profit, operating expenses, and other key financial trends, providing meaningful insights to the CFO and leadership team.

• Lead Budget vs. Actual reviews with department leaders, explaining significant variances and partnering with leaders to understand underlying drivers and appropriate actions.

• Partner with department leaders to strengthen financial accountability and understanding of departmental performance.

• Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities and communicate them proactively to the CFO and leadership team.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

• Provide oversight of the company’s A/P and A/R processes, including vendor payments, customer invoicing, cash application, collections, and account reconciliations.

• Maintain appropriate controls around vendor setup, invoice approval, payment processing, customer billing, and cash receipts.

• Oversee A/R aging and partner with Sales and other business leaders to proactively address collection issues.

• Ensure timely and accurate billing for product and Professional Services transactions.

Team Leadership

• Lead, develop, and manage a team of two accounting professionals responsible for the company’s day-to-day accounting operations.

• Establish clear priorities, responsibilities, processes, and performance expectations across the accounting function.

• Review work performed by team members and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development to strengthen individual and team performance.

• Ensure appropriate cross-training and process documentation to support business continuity.

• Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, responsiveness, collaboration, and continuous process improvement.

Business Partnership

• Partner with leaders across Sales, Professional Services, Operations, People Services, Marketing, and other functional areas to understand business activity and its financial impact.

• Partner with the Professional Services organization to ensure accurate accounting and financial visibility related to revenue, costs, labor, utilization, and project activity.

• Collaborate with department leaders to strengthen financial processes, controls, accountability, and visibility.

• Provide the CFO with timely insight into accounting matters, financial risks, business trends, and operational issues that may impact financial performance.

Controls, Compliance & Audit

• Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and processes.

• Ensure compliance with applicable GAAP requirements and company accounting policies.

• Coordinate with external auditors and other financial partners, providing requested schedules, reconciliations, documentation, and explanations.

• Maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready accounting records and supporting documentation.

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen controls, and increase efficiency and scalability.

Success In This Role

• Deliver accurate, timely, and consistently executed monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.

• Produce reliable financial statements and management reporting that provide leadership with meaningful insight into business performance.

• Maintain strong accounting review processes, reconciliations, documentation, and internal controls that support accurate financial reporting.

• Build productive partnerships with department leaders that strengthen financial accountability and understanding of business performance.

• Proactively identify and communicate financial risks, trends, and opportunities to the CFO.

• Maintain audit-ready financial records and support efficient external audit processes.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a Controller or comparable accounting leadership role.

• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial reporting, and full-cycle accounting.

• Experience leading monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.

• Experience managing or providing oversight of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and related accounting functions.

• Experience with ERP systems and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel or similar financial analysis tools.

• Demonstrated experience leading and developing accounting professionals.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial leaders.

Preferred:

• Experience within technology, cybersecurity, a value-added reseller (VAR), distribution, Professional Services, or a project-based services environment.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial leaders.

• Experience with NetSuite or a comparable ERP platform.

• Experience managing accounting operations in an organization with multiple revenue streams, including product and services revenue.

• This position operates in hybrid work environment in accordance with company policy and business needs.

• Work is generally performed in a professional, climate-controlled office environment utilizing standard office equipment and technology.
