Sobre este puesto de Computational Physics Engineer en ASML

ASML · Presencial · Veldhoven, Netherlands

Introduction to the job

As a Computational Physics Engineer, you play a key role in advancing ASML’s metrology technology. Your work contributes directly to the speed, accuracy, and performance of the computational software that shape the future of semiconductor manufacturing. You will develop cutting-edge electromagnetic models that enable deeper insights into complex optical measurements used around the world.

Role and responsibilities

In this role, you join a dynamic team that combines optical modeling and metrology inference expertise. You focus on developing next‑generation electromagnetic solvers and integrating them into ASML’s metrology solutions.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Develop high‑performance electromagnetic solvers based on integral equation methods and Fourier‑optical models.
  • Create new functionality for Maxwell solvers used in alignment simulations, process modeling, and optical inspection.
  • Build, test, and maintain algorithms and translate requirements into robust software modules.
  • Explain mathematical principles and optical models clearly to internal partners in the Netherlands, the US, and other locations.
  • Design and implement new metrics, models, and algorithms that meet customer and product needs.
  • Review technical analyses and support team members with structured feedback.
  • Contribute to product roadmaps and support the creation of intellectual property.

Education and experience

You have:

  • A master’s degree or PhD in physics, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, or computer science.
  • Experience with high‑performance computing in a Linux environment.
  • Strong programming knowledge in C++11 and familiarity with Python or MATLAB.
  • Background in developing electromagnetic or similar computational algorithms (e.g., acoustics or electronic structure).
  • Experience designing numerical methods, understanding physical modeling, and implementing efficient scientific code.
  • Knowledge of MPI, OpenMP, cloud technologies, or machine learning methods (preferred).
  • Affinity with developing scalable, iterative, and spectral numerical methods.

Skills

Working at the cutting edge of tech, you’ll always have new challenges and new problems to solve – and working together is the only way to do that. You won’t work in a silo. Instead, you’ll be part of a creative, dynamic work environment where you’ll collaborate with supportive colleagues. There is always space for creative and unique points of view. You’ll have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems.
To thrive in this job, you’ll need the following skills:

  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Take initiative and make decisions in a fast‑changing environment.
  • Apply analytical thinking to solve challenging computational problems.
  • Deliver high‑quality results with a proactive mindset.
  • Balance pragmatic engineering with long‑term technical vision.
  • Contribute creative ideas that improve models, algorithms, or performance.

Other information

You will work within the Development & Engineering sector, in the Modeling and Inference Group of the Applications business line. The team is located in the Netherlands and collaborates globally with ASML Research and other engineering groups. The role may involve occasional travel.

A motivation letter is requested to understand how you have applied your technical expertise in practice.

Please note that applications will only be reviewed starting in week 35 due to the holiday period

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
