About the opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced Director, Compliance & Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) to lead our compliance and financial crime framework across Australia and New Zealand.
As our senior compliance leader and designated MLRO, you’ll provide strategic direction, independent oversight and trusted advice to senior leaders and Boards, while helping protect our organisation, customers and the integrity of the financial system.
Salary
The annual salary range for this position is AUD $190,000 to 200,000 plus superannuation and performance bonus.
What you’ll own
- Lead the Compliance function across Australia and New Zealand, providing strategic direction, independent oversight, and challenge across regulatory compliance, AML/CTF, sanctions, and financial crime risk.
- Establish and maintain the organisation’s compliance management framework, including policies, standards, procedures, strategic priorities, operational objectives, and work plans.
- Act as the designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and lead the Australian AML/CTF and financial crime compliance program, ensuring applicable regulatory and legislative obligations are met.
- Oversee financial crime risk management, including risk assessments, customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, suspicious matter reporting, sanctions controls, remediation activities, and ongoing assurance.
- Monitor regulatory developments across Australia and New Zealand and lead the implementation of regulatory change, ensuring requirements are effectively embedded into products, services, processes, controls, and strategic initiatives.
- Provide expert compliance guidance to business stakeholders and oversee compliance risk assessments, monitoring, assurance activities, and control effectiveness reviews, driving remediation and continuous improvement where required.
- Act as a primary point of contact for regulators and government agencies, including AUSTRAC, leading regulatory engagements, examinations, audits, information requests, reviews, and remediation activities.
- Partner closely with Legal, Risk, Product, Operations, Commercial, and Technology teams to proactively identify, assess, manage, and mitigate compliance and financial crime risks.
- Provide regular reporting, assurance, and strategic advice to senior leadership, Board committees, and Australian Boards on key compliance risks, regulatory developments, financial crime matters, control effectiveness, and remediation activities.
- Lead, develop, and mentor the Compliance team while fostering a strong culture of ethics, compliance, and financial crime awareness, including the delivery of training and continuous improvement initiatives.
What you’ll bring
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Business, Finance, Commerce, Risk Management or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Extensive experience leading compliance, AML/CTF and financial crime programs within payments, merchant acquiring, fintech, banking or financial services organisations.
- Demonstrated experience acting as, or performing responsibilities equivalent to, a Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) or senior compliance leader.
- Strong knowledge of Australian regulatory requirements, including AFSL, AML/CTF, sanctions and payments regulation, with experience engaging directly with regulators.
- Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and enhancing compliance and financial crime frameworks, including policies, controls, risk assessments, monitoring and assurance programs.
- Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and apply practical, risk-based solutions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior executives, Boards, regulators and key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including experience operating in complex, fast-paced environments and working effectively across global and regional teams.
