WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):

Internship opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student or trainee to gain work experience offered by an organization for a limited period of time. Assist in the assessment and development of ARC communication materials (news releases, social media content development, storytelling, highlighting special events in line with Red Cross lines of services). Conduct research related to communication materials. Assist with the creation and maintenance of communications plans, and strategies. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers. Work with media databases and Sprout Social Media Management.

Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.

This is a paid part-time, temporary internship position. You must be a currently enrolled student. Travel is expected - 10%. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.

The salary range for this position is (CA): $17.75/hr.

Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role.

Standard Schedule: 20 hours/week with flexible working schedule, during normal business hours.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):   

• May support Communications team with research projects.
• Typically analyze data, present facts, and recommend solutions.
• Develop press materials and social media content (posts, reels, videos).
• Conduct interviews with volunteers, staff, public for story development.
• Attend events in person as needed.
• May create, develop, or maintain databases for various lines of service events or projects.
• Assist with the development of reports and other informational materials presented to management.
• Conduct unit-specific responsibilities.

Scope: Learning aspects of the job. Assignments are received in task- oriented terms. Contacts primarily within immediate work unit.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications): 

• Education: High School or equivalent required. Internship is typically part of an undergraduate program which requires some university credit hours.
• Experience: Up to 1 year of related experience.
• Management Experience: N/A
• Skills & Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Ability to work on a team.
• Travel: N/A

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE COMPETITIVE EDGE (Preferred Qualifications):

• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
• Knowledge of AP Writing Style, social media, video creation and editing.
• Great communications skills.
• Comfortable with interviewing a variety of audience.
• Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
• Studying Public Relations or Communications.

Physical Requirements:  Physical requirements are those present in normal office environment conditions. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and office equipment for sustained periods of time. May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging conditions.
