POSITION SUMMARY

The Clerk II, as part of the data entry team, is expected to work closely with Newborn Screening Ontario (NSO) clinical content specialists, lab head, senior scientists and program director as well as the health care community to coordinate the testing and reporting of non-screening samples and other special requests for testing.  The clerk II will also support the data entry team by training new staff, performing data quality audits, and addressing submitter requests for copies and amendments to reports.  This role will also be responsible for maintaining and developing standard operating procedures for the data entry processes.
 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Entering and verifying patient information in the appropriate software(s); including OMNI
  • Reviewing reports with the lab head, program director or clinical content specialsts as required
  • Assist with follow up for the Infant Hearing Program
  • Assist with data entry and follow up for diagnostic samples
  • Obtaining missing information from submitting sources as required
  • Retrieving and mailing reports and other materials to health care providers as required
  • Triaging telephone calls appropriately depending on nature and urgency of the call
  • Writing/updating standard operating procedures
  • Cooperating in continuous quality improvement and on-going learning opportunities in NSO
  • Working effectively as a team member within NSO
  • Carrying out other related responsibilities as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Secondary School Diploma (Essential)
  • Previous healthcare experience (Essential)
  • Ability to type 125 key strokes per minute (data entry) (Essential)
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer-service skills (Essential)
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail (Essential)
  • Aptitude for databases/software packages and ability to learn new software packages quickly, experience with OMNI LIS (Preferred)
  • Ability to take initiative, work as part of a team and be flexible (Essential)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (Essential)
  • Criminal Record Check (Level 1) (Essential)                       
  • Bilingualism (French/English) (Preferred)

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process.  This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.
