Role Responsibilities
Safety first — conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards using company hauler
Stay compliant — maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation
Transport with Care — load, secure, transport, and unload CarMax vehicles safely and efficiently, including hands-on freight handling, ladder climbing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Be accountable — move vehicles between CarMax locations and approved vendors using a company-provided truck, keeping your equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
Deliver with purpose — deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.
Represent CarMax professionally – interact with vendors, store associates, and the public in a way that reflects our values every time.
Required Qualifications– All Drivers
- 21 years of age or older with a valid state-issued driver’s license.
- Clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years; candidates must meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
- Physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; secure, block, and restrain vehicles during transport; and perform repetitive physical tasks including pulling, torquing, and tensioning chains, binders, and straps to meet FMCSA and CarMax load securement standards.
- Must be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
- Ability to meet DOT & FMCSA qualification requirements.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with adherence to CarMax policies and safety standards.
- Works efficiently and uses time wisely
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the state.
- 2+ years of Class A CDL driving experience (Military heavy/medium tactical vehicle experience considered) OR 2+ years of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driving experience at CarMax (non-Class A CMV experience is acceptable).

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.
Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:
- To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
- For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.
Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
