CDL-A Equipment Laborer (Load Adjust)

Location: Fort Worth, TX
Job Type: Direct Hire, Full-Time
Pay Rate: Starting at $26.00/hour, depending on experience
Benefits: Full benefits package
Schedule: 40 hours guaranteed per week + significant overtime
On-Call: 24/7 availability required, including weekends and holidays

Position Overview

We are seeking a Class A CDL Equipment Laborer (Load Adjust) to support railroad emergency response and construction-related operations. This position involves transporting and operating heavy equipment, assisting with rerailing operations, load adjustments and transfers, track maintenance and repair, and other physically demanding job-site activities.

The role requires individuals who are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, operating a variety of construction equipment, performing physical labor, and responding quickly to emergency service calls.

Employees may average 60+ hours per week, with some weeks reaching approximately 70 hours depending on emergency response and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment in accordance with company policies and D.O.T. regulations.
  • Drive tractor-trailers to and from job sites and inspect loads and machinery being transported.
  • Verify transportation permits to ensure specifications for overweight and oversize loads and equipment are accurate.
  • Participate in daily work planning and safety briefings to ensure safe and efficient completion of assignments.
  • Move, stage, load, and unload materials and equipment for rerailing, load adjustment/transfer, track maintenance, repair, grading, and new construction.
  • Assist with site cleanup and safely reload equipment and materials following completion of assignments.
  • Assist with the assembly, inspection, and operation of cranes and other heavy equipment.
  • Assist with rigging and connecting chains, cables, and winches during derailment response activities.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as cranes, backhoes, grapple trucks, dump trucks, excavators, and other construction or rail-related equipment when qualified.
  • Perform work associated with specialty lifting, rerailing, load transfers, track maintenance/repair, grading, and railroad construction.
  • Use hydraulic tools, welding and cutting equipment, electrical tools, and common hand tools as required.
  • Continuously monitor vehicles and equipment to minimize downtime and maintain operational readiness.
  • Perform and document minor equipment and vehicle service and report more complex mechanical issues to the Shop Manager or Foreman.
  • Assist with disassembly and loading of cranes and other equipment at the completion of assignments.
  • Restock vehicles and equipment with necessary parts, components, and supplies upon returning to the home base.
  • Sort and properly dispose of scrap materials in designated areas.
  • Assist other departments or divisions as needed to meet operational requirements.
  • Follow all required safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Maintain vehicles, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, safe, and professional condition.
  • Schedule & Overtime

  • 40 hours guaranteed per week
  • Significant overtime available; average combined regular and overtime hours are 60+ hours per week
  • Hours worked outside of Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM are paid at time-and-a-half
  • 24/7 on-call availability required for emergency response
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays when needed
  • Rerail team members may spend downtime at the shop completing safety training, preventive maintenance, and equipment-related tasks.
  • Additional Compensation

  • Per diem
  • Hotel accommodations/pay for required travel
  • Layover pay when applicable
  • Requirements

  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a good driving record
  • Experience in construction labor or a similar role involving physical labor
  • Ability to pass required qualification tests, training, and safety programs
  • Must be available 24/7 to respond to emergency service calls, including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to operate construction and heavy equipment safely and effectively
  • Preferred Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience operating heavy equipment, including:
    • Backhoe
    • Bulldozer
    • Excavator
    • Front-end loader
    • Grapple truck
    • Rail-bound equipment
    • Tractor
    • Skid-steer loader
    • Equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
